The crap fill pouring out looks worse than what was under the old Oroville spillway. This is what happens when 'college boy' engineers with no actual experience are designing the infrastructure we rely on every day. Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed Army Corps of Engineers calculated an inflow standard probable flood (SPF) for Oroville Dam inflow based on historical precipitation events, snowmelt and ground moisture. Flood pool reservation curves are based on the powerhouse and spillway's ability to release water and the the limits of what the Feather River (levees, etc.) can handle downstream of Thermalito. Exceeding the flood reservation levels really isn't a problem - until you get a rain/snowmelt 'event' that exceeds the SPF. The lake elevation is currently at 856.30 feet, 44.97 feet from the maximum of 901 feet. Outflows have been ramped down to 29,329 cfs from their peak of 35,801 cfs while inflows have decreased to 21,640 cfs from an earlier peak of 28,364 cfs.
