Thank you, P&P. Some of the Oroville ones can get up to 33 views and a few link clicks. I feel like Elvis, but I'm trying not to let the fame go to my head.

In essence, my main point here, if there is structural damage, the gates may not open ( notice they are not all open). Or, once open, they might get stuck while open. (my hypothesis is that this explains the low release. Fear of a Folsom like failure).

I think the gates are all open, aren't they?

And no doubt DWR is worried about everything working right, but (just my opinion) doubt if they would hesitate to use the gates based on the known issues. They honest-to-God believe everything is fine and will work as planned.

I would instead put my money on DWR thinking "Let's fill up our piggy-bank as fast as possible and start counting the dough, baby!" Which pisses me off because the supposedly mandatory flood pool reservation is based on historical records of how much flood storage they MIGHT STILL need. Since DWR can't see into the future, it would behoove them to follow well-known, best-case conservative storage management engineering guidelines even at the risk of ending up a few acre-ft short of a full dam in May. And I doubt they'll be short at all with the next round of ARk storms rolling in.

Not sure what kind of dumb-assed game they're playing here, but they could have got a jump on maintaining flood storage four days ago by spilling. Everyone knew what was coming, even GLP. Now they can't release much faster if they wanted to because the Sacramento is flooding. They damn well could have started spilling last Saturday and made room by now without causing any problems downstream.

At the end of yesterday, 3/14, they already exceeded the upper storage limit by 42,000 acre-ft. It will probably be double that today. I'm sure they figure inflows will drop off as the week goes on, and then they'll draw the reservoir back down to the flood reservation limit. We know how that's probably going to work out. I suspect the information regarding the failing corroded trunnions is what was blacked out in those Dam Reports.

It seems ridiculous, aS WE ALL KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON.

It eventually pans around to the spillway.
 Quoting: Crunch62

Considering US taxpayers coughed up approx.
$1 billion to clean up the State of California's mess, the least they could have done was to use a few thousand of that and install livecams devoted exclusively to the spillway, gates and the front of the dam itself, that actually work and stay online 24/7

Those are the areas most people are interested in seeing, especially when severe weather hits.

Instead, we are tortured by being forced to sit through 5 minutes of trees, the horizon, a flat lake, and part of a wall just to view a small part at the top of the spillway,

Taxpayers should be able to view what they paid for.

What are they afraid of?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83952860

Actually, this same camera USED to simply show the upper spillway deck and the spillway bridge area. A total of three views as I recall, all of the upper spillway area.

There is another camera, the 'lower spillway camera' that I believe is still in place across the diversion pool from the bottom of the spillway. We aren't allowed to view that one.
 Quoting: Crunch62

So you got me thinking... and I started changing the page id numbers on the web link and found a "hidden" cam. There may be more. I'm going to root around.

Other dams do not fear cameras.
Its a billion dollar taxpayer item, why would you not be proud to show it work?
Heh.

Doesn't make sense does it?

In 2017, I really don't think they expected so many people to pick up the little signs pointing to the impending spillway failure, and making it public before they did.

They're unsure, afraid and want to control the narrative themselves.

Old news already perhaps (2 days ago), but newsworthy!

A slew of storms has replenished several California reservoirs, a much-needed respite from the extreme drought that, until recently, plagued the West Coast.

Another atmospheric river hit the state on Friday, with a second in less than a week dumping even more precipitation on Tuesday night. Given California's tumultuous weather patterns lately, the storms posed a life-threatening flood risk while sating several depleted reservoirs and returning them to 100 percent capacity.

I have to make a confession.

Dealing with this shit regarding the dam for nearly 40 years is taking it's toll.

Watching the DWR incompetence year after year is wearing me down.

I have PTSD from 1986 and 1997. I have stories to tell from those years if anyone is interested in hearing them.

You're a poor pathetic old man who can't even keep your animals safe and alive. I value your opinion the same as I would a bum on the street. Kindly gfy too. I'll keep on shaming capass for his bad behavior regardless of what you think, gramps.

Or maybe you wanna threaten to fight me again? That was funny too.

And no Schwab for alignment. I have a tape measure and a level.

You already said they screwed up your alignment. So either you are lying about doing your own or lying about them screwing it up.

I never said they screwed up my alignment. I said they fucked up my rides. Reading comprehension. Learn it.

I went there for a set of tires. They were H-rated 'extra-load'. On a small car. The max pressure on the tires was 44 PSI.

The car called for 28 PSI front, 26 PSI rear.

What did the Schwab guys fill them to...44 PSI all around. I drove home, nearly losing my teeth and then reduced the pressure to what is should have been.

Schwab guys are fucking idiots.

You can't even afford the gasoline to meet me. And why would I risk elder abuse charges to defend my internet honor because you like a drunk capstard? Give me a reason because again, an opinion from a loudmouth poor piece of shit doesn't rank very highly with me.

You want a reason...bring it...there is your reason.

I am getting too old to fuck around with assholes like you.

Bring it.

Or STFU.

Say "bring it" again like I'm supposed to rush out and risk criminal charges. No one is threatened by an feeble old man with a loud mouth.

Re: California's Lake Oroville Main Spillway Severely Damaged/Eroded. Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed
Added 64,923 acre-feet over the last 24 hours, 565,501 acre-feet of storage remain. Current outflow is 21,544 cfs, up 5,603 cfs from 15,941 cfs yesterday at 8 AM.

Does anyone know if the higher release rate is due to them opening the gates more or if that is due exclusively to the 4.73' increase in water level over that 24 hour period?

Can't link from this device. Watched Marty and Juan came up in my feed. Blancolirio youtube channel.

Juan has a March 11 update of the new spillway. It does open with 4 gates, but then he has footage of all 8 gates open. I think it's current. Anyway, here's hoping they hold up.

My wife (fiancee then) and I grew up in So Cal. Simi Valley. It was a nice place to grow up then, but expensive to live. We looked at Nor Cal due to the low rent and low property prices.

We came up to Honcut in November of 1985. I had just turned 23. With the nonstop rain day after day, I wondered WTF had I done moving here. I did not realise it was not a normal year.

Coming into February of 1986, I received a call notifying me that one of my friends from So Cal had passed away. Worse was the fact he had taken his own life. I was asked to be a pallbearer at his funeral.

The rain was bad and the roads were flooding badly. My wife (fiancee) and I spent the night at her cousin's house down in Yuba City. My flight to So Cal was scheduled for early the next morning.

We drove down to the Sacramento airport early that morning. I think my flight was scheduled for 6:30 AM.

Debi was then planning to head to work. She was a stylist in the JC Penney hair salon in the Peach Tree Mall in Linda-Marysville.

I flew down to Burbank airport. Somebody picked me up (I don't remember who).

Later that afternoon, I was at my parents' house watching the TV news. Suddenly, there was a breaking news report of a levee breach in Nor Cal.

I watched a helicopter shot of the Peach Tree Mall underwater. Where Debi was supposed to be at work.

I freaked.

Nothing I could do, being 500 miles away. No cell phones or internet then. No email, no text. Just old-school land lines. I called home, I called relatives, I called everyone I knew.

Nobody had seen her. I was losing my shit. I just kept watching that video of the mall underwater. I thought she was gone.

I completely lost it. My dad restrained me, as I was trying to RUN back to Nor Cal.

Finally, Debi called. She had decided to NOT go to work that day, due to the road conditions. She had spent most of the day just trying to get home. Finally made it by taking numerous roundabout routes.

A day from Hell for me, thanks to CA DWR failure.

I will never forget it. Damn them.
