Re: A Surefire Way to Get Out of Jury Duty!
A surefire way to get out of jury "duty."
I had to sacrifice 10.5 hours of work this week to do jury "duty" (i.e. forced labor). Fortunately, I know of a way to get out of jury duty without lying or I would still be there. FYI, there is NO Constitutional requirement that I serve jury duty, only that I receive a trial by jury if accused of a crime by the state, so please don't respond by saying it's my "civic duty" or the "moral" thing to do. Heck, they don't even want guys like me most of the time because each side simply tries to pick the most manipulatable people they can find and I think for myself. They don't want critical thinkers to serve on juries, and this makes sense if you stop and think about it. The goal isn't to serve justice - it's to win the case..... As Norm Crosby said, "When you go into court you are putting your fate into the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty."

Anyhow, here's the secret to getting out of jury duty, but before I tell you how let me warn you that you HAVE to do this in a way that doesn't look like you're trying to get out of serving or the presiding potentate might cite you for contempt and make you pay a fine or worse.... What you do is answer YES on the pre-jury-selection survey to the question asking if you have a belief or attitude that causes you to doubt or dismiss the validity of the judicial system. When the judge asks you to elaborate, simply tell him you believe in JURY NULLIFICATION; however, you don't believe that it applies to this case. The court system, especially here in authoritarian California, is SO AFRAID of this LEGAL remedy that they don't even want the IDEA presented and potentially explained. You WILL be dismissed as I was today.

You actually show up for jury duty?

I used to ignore the summons. They got "lost in the mail," right? I'm not fucking retarded. I thought of that. I work with a guy who did just that and after several notices he was fined.

I tell them I am less likely to believe a cop because he's a cop. Worked 3 times.

I used this successfully this week. Said I would have to not believe any police testimony because of the many times they lie under oath in court and plant evidence. This case had about 10 police officers listed as witnesses.

Just for insurance I also answered a question about following the law and the jury instructions by saying 'my conscience would not let me' vote 'guilty' if it was for breaking a law that I didn't believe was a good law.

What about simply throwing out the summons? Things do get lost in the mail...

I also need to find a religion that says it is wrong to sit in judgment of one's fellow man.
You can be excused if you have that religion.

If the timing doesn't work out with your schedule, you can also try to get your original appearance date delayed. My spouse had to do this, but it was for a legitimate reason, and they granted it.

Did they send your jury notification by certified mail?

Can they prove you ever received the jury notification?

You know it is a notification and not a summons right?
 Quoting: Occam's Deplorable Razor

They don't send them certified mail here so in the trash it goes.
It has become a waste of time and my employer wont pay for the time I miss.
