Re: Migraines and Cannabis Oil: An Update
I took cherry syrup for 10 years as I suffered from migraines. This has to be syrup not juice. Montmorency cherries are the best for its syrup. Take 1 tbsp twice daily for at least 3 months then 1 tbsp daily ongoing. It can be added to water, juice or taken straight up. I added mine to a glass of OJ. One tbsp of pure cherry syrup has the potency of 10 Ibuprofens but not the side effects of actually taking 10 Ibuprofens. My migraines were relieved and I would only on occasion suffer from a mild headache. I stopped taking the syrup about 4 months ago and whammo! I had the worst migraine headache with the nausea, vomiting and photosensitivity that I have had in years just 3 days ago. I went and bought my cherry syrup and will not ever stop it again!

Where do you buy this sort of syrup?

I can find "concentrate" but not syrup per se.

Yes syrup or concentrate is the same. Cherry juice is diluted so you don't get the same benefits.

Re: Migraines and Cannabis Oil: An Update
Hey OP, sorry to hear your wifey is in ill health.

I have a damaged back and get headaches that can last for days. The meds I take
have no effect on them, only good, cured heavy weed or resin. Anything thats not
cured or of a sativa type plant has no effect either, only the indica dominant
varieties.

On this basis, I'd say cbd oil is the way forward and it can't do any harm trying
to make/buy some of your own. There are videos showing how to make absolute shatter
but it has to be the one where they use grain alchohol prior to cooking it off.

Once you have the absolute shatter, you can cook it down to a resin. You then mix
this with heated coconut oil and store in a syringe for easy dosing. Once again, you
can find the info all over youtube.

Best of luck to finding an easy cure.

ps.

Make sure you have a bowl of dried lavender near your wifes' bedside table. At all times.

My wife suffers from migraines. And has tried everything from vitamin therapy, acupuncture, to single meds, to combinations of medications without much in the way of results.

Does anyone have anything resembling reliable information about cannabis oil as a treatment for migraines? She (we) are at wits end in terms of finding something that will provide reliable relief.

And if it's a dead end, it's a dead end, I get that. I just feel so damned helpless watching her suffer and not being able to do anything to help her.

Thanks in advance.

her body is Toxic, actually over toxic if she's having migraines. A clean body does not get headaches. The more Tylenol or Advil she takes the more that she is laying down additional toxins. She needs to do a cleanse maybe start with a general then move onto organ specific, kidneys liver colon etc

Weed helps but you really need to find a corrective chiropractor. Call them. It's a y/n question. It will probably take 3-6 months and continued maintenance. Purchase ice packs

If they gave tens units and heating pads. Leave. They are just a regular chiro$

An update:

Our first shipment of CBD oil arrived unscathed.

She's been taking it before bedtime in the recommended dosage and, knock on wood, has NOT had any migraine, or migraine symptoms, for TWELVE straight days.

Given what she'd been experiencing for the couple of previous months, this is as close to a miracle as one could get.

Note: I'm not a healthcare worker, neither is she. We have no association with any cannabis organization. I'm sharing our experience and nothing in my posts should be considered as advice or a recommendation for anyone. Etc., etc., etc., blah, blah, blah.

You can buy CBD oil, which has no psychoactive component, and it can be shipped to you if you can't get it locally. A lot of people report a good amount of help for migraines with the CBD.

CBDistillery dot com is one that has a good rep. You still want the whole plant extract as there are at least 111 cannabinoids in the 'average' cannabis plant.

If it were me and it were legal in my state, I would try indica dominant for an actual attack (and go to bed) and take the CBD daily as a preventative and an adaptogenic balancer. It does take time to build in the system. CBD won't flag on a drug test, if that is a concern.

The 420 magazine has a forum with an encyclopedic number of links to medical studies for various maladies and lots of very knowledgeable people willing to share their experiences.

Thanks, Fluffy, very much.
 Quoting: Larry D. Croc

But it won't deal with the pain. Usually people take a combination of THC and CBD, like the one I have, cbd balance. 7% of each.

And that slowly gets your immunity to the thc up because some of us are quite sensitive to it, and yet while cbd has some positive benefits, its the thc that reduces tumors in all the studies and stops cancer for many, so its good to slowly get immunity to that up.

I had very bad migraines when taking birth control, so the doctor dropped it to the lowest kind at the time, and headache again. Had the pre warning and would drive to pick up my mother, and she would watch the baby and kids, had 3 then. Ended up with 5 boys.

By the time I got home, had to race to bed and go to sleep, sleep for 6 hours was the only thing that took it away, and threw the pills away when the last one happened anyway on the new pills.

Re: Migraines and Cannabis Oil: An Update
Yes I am a migraine sufferer or should say I used to be. I researched the internet for months to find a cure but always found strange remedies. My search ended when I found a doctor who really found a sure cure for these deadly headaches. So here is his answer and it does work for me though I only need to take magnesium.

There is a good remedy based on the central
causes of migraines that stop attacks within
a couple of minutes. Mix the contents of four
capsules (120mg per cap-Ed) of magnesium citrate/malate
and one capsule of calcium pyruvate (1,000 milligrams)
with 4 ounces of water and mix well. Drink this
and then eat a complex carbohydrate with some
type of meat, such as whole grain bread and
organic turkey or chicken. Just a half a sandwich
will do.
The supplement mixture reduces the vasospasm
and vasodilation cycle, blocks excitotoxicity,
raises energy levels in the brain and reduces
inflammation, which are the causes of the attack.
Hypoglycemia is a major trigger for a migraine
attack since it increases brain glutamate levels and
lowers magnesium levels, which are the reasons for
the attack. Dr R.Blaylock

I'm a long time migraine sufferer.

I have found that cannabis helps the best, it works much better than the so called pain pills for that. After using it, it works best if you can go to bed and sleep for a bit.

Obviously everyone is different, but I found that my salt levels were low. At onset I take some Pink Himalayan salt with lots of water (the larger crystals, bite and swallow )

Warm compress over my eyes and tiger balm on my temples and forehead and the back of my neck. Get into a hot bath. An anti inflammatory sometimes too. Mostly I find that the salt helps. It will also help if levels are kept high enough, and the migraines will be kept at bay. Monitor blood pressure, as you don't want that going too high because of the salt.

All the best to your wife.

from migraine web site.
Marijuana headaches and migraines
There are practically no studies on medical marijuana for migraines. Therefore there is no concrete scientific evidence on marijuana’s effectiveness, the proper dosage or the best method to ingest it.

Medical marijuana and chronic migraine headache
In the late 1800s marijuana was often used by doctors for treating migraines and other types of headaches.

The most popular way to use marijuana is to smoke the dried leaves. Smoking quickly gets Marijuana’s chemicals into the bloodstream. When Marijuana is eaten, it leaves a lower level of chemicals in the body but it has a longer lasting effect.

I'd reiterate that the CBD oil has the cannabinoids in it but has an extremely low level of THC which is what you get high on.

This is the benefit of the hemp without the "kick".

It would not, for example, show up on a drug test.

And all I'm doing here is sharing our experience; not in any way recommending or prescribing or offering advice for anyone else.

There have been enough people interested that I thought I'd offer a quick update.

We're at the four week mark and she hasn't had a headache.

By way of comparison, she's kept a "diary" so she'll have facts to discuss with her doctor. In looking at the diary she realized that since September, 2016 she has not gone a week without at least one migraine.

So for five months plus, at least one (or more) migraines per week.

Past four weeks? The picture of health.

It's GOT to be more than coincidence in my opinion.

It's been five weeks and things are still on the upswing.

My wife DID have the beginnings of a migraine last weekend...uh-oh. She took whatever the doctor had prescribed and got no relief at all.

I'd assembled the ingredients quoted above and she took a "dose" of this remedy figuring there was nothing to lose.

Damned if, within 30 minutes, essentially all signs of the migraine were GONE. Yup, not a trace of pain and she was smiling in shock and relief.

Smooth sailing since then so she's had the beginning, and quick end of one migraine in five weeks compared to having at least one (or more) migraine per week for the preceding five months.

After more research we've added some magnesium glycinate, one capsule in the morning, one at night with the CBD oil in the hope that the easily absorbed magnesium, coupled with the oil, will be the final piece of the puzzle.

Again, not trying to shill or promote anything, but given the number of people who struggle with migraines I'm interested in sharing my wife's success in the hope it might be useful for someone else, nothing more.

The above is not intended to be medical advice of any sort and, as always, ymmv.

Re: Migraines and Cannabis Oil: An Update
I'm female and have suffered from migraines for ooohhh 22 years now.....

For me personally, after testing all sorts of mess from beta blockers, to general painkillers, stronger painkillers, immigrant injections etc....nothing worked in stopping them.

Couldn't find a dietary link to mine either. Mine appeared to be linked to the female hormones and were definitely worse at certain times of the month.

I had a hysterectomy and ovary removal 3 years ago and as soon as the estrogen had depleted completely, I stopped having migraines altogether. If I have anything slightly estrogenic now it will actually cause a migraine. The only reason I know is cos I tried add back hrt estrogen only and that caused the migraines and also some essential oils are estrogenic and they bring on migraines for me.

Some people have food allergies that cause them, sometimes it's not necessarily one specific food but a particularly combination of two or three foods.

There is a part of the ear which can be pierced and apparently this stops migraines.

Has she tried keeping a diary to see what possibly is causing them? Could be stress? Could be something environmental? Or a medication? Or a nerve issue?

Anyhow, cannabis is a pain reliever so I would have thought it would offer relief during an attack......whether it will stop them altogether I'm not sure?
 Quoting: VioletR

Sounds so familiar to me except I suffered with migraines longer because I waited until I went through the change until they completely stopped.

But during that time IF I ate super super healthy and that means no dairy no wheat no sugar or junk food and certainly no MSG, then they went away, "most of the time". And those trigger foods didn't always cause a headache right away so it was very difficult to nail down. sometimes I had to eat them several days in a row before I got a migraine, sometimes not.
