As far as we know, even was conventional atomic/thermonuclear explosion, or a nuclear reactor explosion, that iodine SHOULD appear together with strontium.

The possible source can be from a medical facility (?), from a dirty bomb test or... from new generation of nuclear-based weapons.
The last hypothesis will suggest that will be a new weapon nuclear-based without not too much explosion (no seismic waves who suggest an big explosion appear worldwide). Maybe something like neutron bomb?
