It's designed to pop off after it reaches sufficient altitude that it no longer needs to protect the berthing port underneath. AH. Yes it is cone shaped when it first enters the frame. I actually just saw that myself. At the VERY beginning of the first frame it seems to have a flat side. Therefore I seem to have jumped the gun a bit on this thread post. Yep.....looks like it is in fact the nose cone due to that flat side. Kudos to GLP....at least we can still get to the bottom of some things which do not involve politics. As a result of this discovery, I give this to my own thread then..........
