Ditto on the home shop. I got an old Bridgeport Boss 5 cnc that I gutted the electronics on and rebuilt with new drives, power supply, controller, etc. It ran great til the pc took a shit.

are you using mach3 or linuxcnc?

ive got mach3 on the 2 mills i have
and putting together a lathe soon

old warner swasey m1200
have an old anilam 2 axis slide thing
used to convert manual lathe to cnc
but im replacing the old dc servos with some a/c ones
and using mach3

Yep! Mach 3 isnt perfect, but for what I use it for it works just fine.

I'd like to replace the old stepper motors on the Bridgeport, but ac servos and drives aren't cheap.

I will definitely look into that!

The old steppers like to stall out sometimes and it loses position as there is no encoder on the motor shaft. Its a bitch when Z stalls then thinks it needs to feed the full length down to the part, my vise jaws have taken a few hits!!! Haha.

no problem

i still have steppers on my other mill
they were easier to get going when i was starting to mess with that stuff

they lose position and arent very fast at all
but ive made a ton of stuff on that mill
