Car Inventories Swell to 13-Year High

“We are at record sales levels, so you would expect higher inventories. But sales are leveling off. There’s also a buildup of car inventory, and I don’t know how much of that can be moved,” said Jessica Caldwell, executive director of industry analysis at Edmunds.

Banks are stretching out loans to make payments more affordable for buyers, extending loan terms as high as 84 months, Caldwell noted. The average loan term in February marked an all-time high at 69.1 months, beating the previous record set in September 2016, based on Edmunds data.

Re: Car Inventories Swell to 13-Year High
The manufacturers continue to pump out cars to keep their people employed and their factories open. This was facilitated by sub-prime auto loans and terms for up to as long as 96 months for a new vehicle. Liek everything else, the bottom drops out at some point. Only so many people want new cars at any given time. Alot of the cars they are selling as "new" now have actually been sitting for 2 to 3 years. Check the VIN and the production date.

New cars are a waste of money.
Something 2-4 years old is always a better choice.
Let some other poor slob take the massive depreciation hit.
Not to mention, the prices for basic cars/trucks are NUTS.

Re: Car Inventories Swell to 13-Year High
are so many new cars flooding the market even necessary? If the auto industry were smart, they'd just do new cars every other year. with how long cars and engines last these days, there's no need to always get a new car. even old cars last a long time.

Also, prices are way too high, especially considering the cheap materials used. It's not as if they're made of heavy metal anymore. A new full size pickup for $60K? they can fuck off with those prices.

I wonder how this breaks down with posters in different states, taxes, weather conditions, etc.

I am sure the difference wouldn't be astronomical however I am still curious

In order for the US Ecomanny to recover, we must do two things. First, eliminate the income tax in favor of a flat sales tax. Which would not put any shit heads from the IRS out of work.

And second, eliminate export taxes on American goods and create more favorable trade deals for manufacturers and producers. A move that would rid us of many a fucking parasite on Wall Street.

Managing a hedge fund is not being a wealth creator. Owning six Caddy dealerships or an electrical contracting business is wealth creation. Building cars, making widgets, fixing pipes, teeth, or roofs that is wealth creation.

Sitting your fat ass in chair in some cubicle pimping "financial instruments" why Rome burns just makes you a fucking parasite.

Yep.
Better to have a nice slightly used vehicle than a brand new shoe box sized piece of crap for the same money.
