Re: Best lures for bass fishing?
What a fun topic!

Used to really love those Fred Arbogast lures....

Hula Poppers, the jointed one that looked and wiggled like a mouse or small rat, the ones with long spoonbil that would dive. They were all really cool and a joy to have in the tacklebox. Also the rapalla, Heddon Lucky 13, They were classic days for artificial fishermen.

Pretty much before worms. Then they came along. Bass will hit almost anything. So much fun to present the lure and have it smashed. Great fun with a fly rod and poppers.

I'm still looking at another month before the topwater bite picks up here but damn I cannot wait. Won't stop until I land one on the savage 3D rat.

Re: Best lures for bass fishing?
Okay I had some friends help me identify today's catch.

The consensus is spotted musky. Didn't have any measurement tools with me but it was at least 12lbs and probably 30 inches considering I'm wearing size 11 combat boots. Obviously not what I was targeting but my first ever of the species.

The first two are the babies, obviously lol

Heard they live 10-15 years. Watched One grow to 16 years before someone caught him. It was just a Bass, though.

Toss a cast net over a bated area.

A Meps #5 spinner is just as effective.

Caught my first fish on the savage 3D topwater rat

Hooked up with several others on another rod using Texas rigged senkos but only landed one with that rod the others broke me off, only had 10lb test on it. Lost a lot of hooks, slip sinkers and senkos today.

Re: Best lures for bass fishing?
Most amazing day of bass fishing of my life! Landed seven quality bass none under 15" with this being the trophy of the day: [link to m.imgur.com (secure)]

She was guarding a bed so officially it's the first bed fish I've landed. Fought harder and longer than a musky but no worries I sent her back after photo op and she went right back to guarding her nest

Re: Best lures for bass fishing?
FYI a white bang tail (kinda like a rooster tail) was absolutely wrecking the smallmouth bass in the cheat river today. Went out for some trout and landed 20+ smallies in under two hours. Also landed my first ever brown trout which was a bonus.

Happy angling!
