Syria is a key staging ground for the long term plans of Syria’s allies.

To stop those long term plans by Syria’s allies, and make the countries surrounding Syria into defensible territories, Syria has to be broken up. The chemical attack wasn’t carried out by Assad.

Issue is that all sides to the Syrian conflict are very corrupt. In addition Assad is Alawite and has killed those from other tribes and religious views.

ISIS/DAESH is backed by The Gulf States and consisting of many from Saudi Arabia. They were originally trained in Afghanistan to fight the invading Soviets before Russian satellites gained their independence. That's the beginning of the ties to the US military. ISIS/DAESH follow a very strict version of Islam and have Clerics and religious scholars among their commanders. They are also the least Westernized.

Originally there were Moderate rebels that the US was covertly supporting with military aid etc. Other terrorist groups confiscated all the equipment. Rather then be killed most Moderate rebels were absorbed into one of the terrorist groups. Loyalty to anyone is usually not a priority when there's always distrust of the leadership.
