Ok, I'll bite. How is FB going to get all it's 1 B users to buy this beta device? The answer is, they won't; definitely not now.

There was that one press-shot of the conference years ago where Mark was walking down an aisle and everyone else in seats was wearing an Oculus. That went nowhere as it has been a total failure.

What I'm trying to say politely is that the software/hardware isn't even close - and even if they gave them away, the software/hardware isn't there yet (hence the 5yr+ beta stage).

I don't see an application for this as a piece of shit head piece as it stands.

Putting on a VR headset changes you into a digital slave. Why not skip ahead and upload your brain into a computer? Because it's a bad idea. It's a terrible idea. You cease to be you and become a cog in a machine.

FB VR Space is training people to become cogs in Facebook's mainframe.

this is be another way to escape reality, some people use drugs, some people will use vr, because reality isn't pleasant for them. this is a step towards the main goal of emulating different realities to the perfection, not by 'the elite' or similar fantasies but by mankind itself

Spaces will initially only be available on Oculus Rift headsets, however it will later expand to other VR platforms. The software, which is in beta, is open to software developers to modify. The app is available for free download in the Early Access section of the Oculus Store.

Why don't we all just upload our brains into a computer? that's where this is headed, isn't it? Why have physical realism and reality at all? Because once you're uploaded into a computer its Game Over. A person can edit "you" as anyone would edit a file nowadays, at will.

Our Ancestors fucked up real life so badly that VR IS better beyond a doubt.

VR should be researched and improved upon at any cost. Humanity has done nothing but create horrors beyond imagination. There is no "honor" in living within our real world, there is only death, destruction and pain. Within VR, we can live as God himself if we wished.

Shame on you. Real Life is beyond hell it'sself.

And the problems that we have in the actual real world will be carried over into virtual reality.

If it's so bad why don't you live your entire life in VR and upload your mind into a computer and "live" your life as data on a mainframe somewhere?

Yes, there is honor in living in the real world because it's REAL and not some made up fantasy of 1's and 0's.

But if you dont think theres any honor in living in the real world why don't you just upload your mind into a computer and let your body die? Then you're just lines of code, you're not a person. If you do that you're just lines of code that can be modified and deleted at will.

Look up Roko's Basilisk, Kosekki. Imagine people with the power of VR. The people who create the death, misery, and destruction will have the power of Gods. Imagine what people could do if they were not bound by the laws of physics.

Living our lives in a 1's and 0's virtual fantasy land won't change the facts of life. It'll just make it easier to commit atrocities and to do bad things.

But since there's no "honor" in living in the real world, why don't you just go ahead and live your entire life in VR or upload your mind into a Mainframe and cease to be a person and become lines of code that can be distilled down to 1's and 0's on a hard drive somewhere.

I thik Kosekki should live his/her entire life in VR. If he/she posts here again without evidence that he/she is living his/her entire life in VR, or is uploaded into a computer, then he/she is a flaming hypocrite.

Yes.

The future is you sitting in a matrix pod being fed by tubes but doing all your brain stuff through a virtual reality network.

In will start out with a social app.
It will evolve to office work where you can remotely meet your coworkers, then retail will join the train, allowing you to shop in a virtual store.

Until people realise they are better off spending time in VR where they can mod and control everything than out on the streets with all its dangers and disease.

Then the first VR-addicts will pop up, people who spend 90% of time in their share and who get annoyed and frustrated in the real world.

Combine this with robots doing all the manufacturing work and you know where this is going.

People in pods until someone pulls the plug.

That's just it. THE PEOPLE won't be in any control at that point. The demons of this world will be.

The real question is, how long until this VR world converges with the real world and begins to have real life consequences?

I really don't see this ending well, seems like a step further into dehumanizing the populace.

this is a cool technology, but i don't think anyone realizes how addictive augmented and virtual reality are going to become.

i predict a real social crisis from this pandoras box, involving NEET (not employed educated or trained) people becoming depressed and escaping to VR.
