Why was the Book of Enoch removed yet Jesus quoted from it?
I want to preface my question with this statement; Im a Christian. I suppose you could call me an evangelical christian, of baptist persuasion. I believe the bible is a divinely inspired spiritual guide book with some history. However, I cannot stop thinking about the entire bible. The pre Council of Nicaea had so much more in it. I don't understand why it's considered heretical to want to study and read what was in the bible. I'm not referring to the gnostic gospels. Isn't removing things from the bible or adding to it considered heretical? I'm very confused on this. Anyone care to help me understand?

Not just Enoch, but the other books the just decided to toss out...and what's been lost in translation?

Another thing that puzzles me is why in the KJV and the other bibles read by protestant churches are missing key things that the Catholic bible has. What's wrong with Tobit and the Macabees? I know there are other books just not making a list and checki g it twice.

As a Christian, I want the most comprehensive list of divine inspired material to study. Man taking out what man deems not on par with what man thinks is inspired basically saying that they don't actually trust God to reveal himself to the reader of the text. It feels like these men hid biblical truth from us.

Where did Jesus quote from it? I know Jude did.

I do believe it's divine and I think it was removed from the Bible because of the first paragraph of the book. It's a book meant for the last days, and now it shows up everywhere again.

Trey Smith has a good video on Enoch. That's actually what started my interest in studying the Bible.
All characters and events in this forum --even those based on real people-- are entirely fictional. All celebrity comments are impersonated...poorly. The above post contains coarse language and due to the content it should not be viewed by anyone.

I've read it several times and I think it's great. Nothing in it goes against the bible.

I"ve read so many "extra" books and i've found great things in many of them. Some are complete BS, but some aren't. It's like digging for gold....but you have to be strongly rooted in the truth so you're not deceived by the BS in some of them.

When was the Book of Enoch removed?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57747963

The book of Enoch was ultimately rejected in 364 AD at the Council of Laodicea. The fact that this act of betrayal against the earlier traditions happened in the church of Laodicea is stunningly prophetic, for the Prophet of Revelation has more harsh words for Laodicea than any other church in Asia,

I will spit you out of my mouth… You are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked… be zealous, therefore, and repent.[4]

Discontented by this critique of their town, Laodicea tried to remove Revelation from the Bible too, in addition to Enoch, but the Council of Carthage superceded them.

Tons of books were decided to be left out by Rome. And all the books included were decided by Rome. What you call the "word of God" was decided and dictated by a group of men no better than yourselves by order of Emperor Constantine. Wakey wakey.

Lol I was raised baptist. I know those 'looks'. hiding

Most churches/groups preach and teach what they regard as 'biblical truth', despite whatever the church/group down the street believes and practices.

The elders and leaders of each church/group believes what they were taught by those before them. Just like our parents and other teachers, taught us what they had been taught by those before them. And so on, every generation back unto the beginning of time.

So what you and I and most folks everywhere have, is that what we believe in today is what we were TAUGHT by parents/teachers/pastor etc to believe is the truth.

But is it.. truth? Reality?

But very often in groups like that.. Lord have mercy on anyone who dares to question.. anything, anyone, ever.

Since we don't dare ask it out loud in too many places, we begin to ask ourselves.. what DO I believe? WHY do I believe that? If/when the only answer that can be found is .. because my parents/teachers/pastor taught me to believe that.. it's time to go digging to see if what we were taught is the actual truth.

Not some corrupted version of it.

There are different versions (translations) of Enoch. The one you've linked above is the Slavonic version. It's an interesting thing to read all the versions.

Below is a link to the Ethiopian version, which is considered 'the official version'.

Enoch

Jared's son was named Enoch, which means teaching, or commencement. He was the first of four generations of preachers. In fact, the earliest recorded prophecy was by Enoch, which amazingly enough deals with the Second Coming of Christ (although it is quoted in the Book of Jude in the New Testament):

Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against."
Jude 14, 15

Jesus never quotes and book of Enoch. That is why you posted no reference.

Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Even this says nothing about any BOOK of Enoch.
The Book of Enoch is a fraud that contradicts Scripture.

Why don't you read it?

It says that the reason Esau was so famished when he received food from Jacob was because he had just returned from doing the Lord's work in slaying Nimrod.

Genesis clearly shows that he was just a frivolous fool who carelessly let go of his birthright for a meal.

It makes the bad guy look like a victim.

And that is just one example.

BoE is BS

Re: Why was the Book of Enoch removed yet Jesus quoted from it?
There is also a provocative rabbinical tradition that Enoch was born on the 6th of Sivan. Enoch is an interesting mystery in the Old Testament. (The first prophecy by a prophet in the Bible is a prophecy of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ,10 uttered by Enoch before the flood of Noah!)

Another provocative tradition about Enoch is that he was also translated ("raptured?") on his birthday, the 6th of Sivan.

There were three groups of people facing the judgment of the flood of Noah:

those that perished in the flood;
those that were preserved through the flood (in the Ark);
those that were removed prior to the judgment of the flood.

It is interesting that Enoch might prove to be a foreshadowing of a removal prior to judgment, in contrast to Noah and his family who were protected through it.

The Trumpet of God

Paul mentions the "Trumpet of God" in connection with the rapture.11 It is interesting that this term appears only twice in the Bible: at the rapture and at the giving of the Law at Sinai.12

(It is interesting to carefully compare Acts 2 with Exodus 19, both of which apparently occurred on the 6th of Sivan.)

Could both of these references to the "Trumpet of God" be connected with the 6th of Sivan? (Don't confuse the "Trumpet of God" with the temple trumpets or the shofar.)

The Feast of Harvest

Another name for the Feast of Weeks is Hag Ha Kazir, The Feast of Harvest, since it is celebrated at the time of the "first harvest." It is interesting that Jesus frequently used "the harvest" as an idiom to refer to the ingathering of believers.
