Neither here nor there but Close Encounters was and still is one of my favorite movies.

However, it is also a very sad movie too.

Roy Neary leaves his wife and kids like they are an after thought.

That was damn depressing. I would have thought that perhaps fatherly instinct would override everything.

In addition, all of those people taken decades before that they returned ? Their lives are ruined. Not really. But kinda.

And then they take the poor kid, who didn't seem to mind but the mother was in hell while he was gone.

Yes, good movie. But Steven Spielberg even said he wouldn't have made it the way he did if was married with a family...

Oh yeah, that one too. That is another favorite of mine. Not as trippy as 2001 but it wasn't meant to be. Arthur C Clarke even said that he liked it and thought it was a good movie.

Here is another thing: The director (or perhaps it was Roy Schieder) communicated with Clarke via the computer on a primitive (by today's standards) on a messaging system.

We now know it as email.

A part of me would like to see the trilogy completed with 3001: Odyssey 3.

However, only a good film maker would be able to do it justice and I am afraid that these stupid movie studios would either not want to bank roll it or they would turn it into a dumb popcorn movie.

Maybe he got sight of something the government was testing and when trying to capture him in an attempt to get him not to talk they accidentally downed his plane, and then cleaned up the mess and covered up their tracks so nobody would ever know what happened to him.
