(Multiple rotating offsite backups are best. I encrypt my backups and keep a copy at work or with family.) 1) Keep your OS patches up to date. 2) Keep all PCs behind a router/firewall that blocks all ports except the internet ports you need. 3) Turn off all ports your local desktops do not need. 4) Keep Virus scan up to date (Might not protect you) 5) Do not open sketchy websites or email. If you want to contribute to this thread please submit your fixes and advice Exactly how does one Turn them off and how does one know the ones to leave open ? |

Also unneeded services can be turned off. I had XP on my gaming rig only running 12 services back in the day. Be careful!. Turning off the wrong services can leave your PC useless and not bootable. Whoever developed this isn't out there trying to get $300 from YOU. The worm is designed to inviltrated SYSTEMS....computer SYSTEMS. That is why only 200,000+ SYSTEMS have been infiltrated but that translates into 10 MILLION individual computers. It has affected the BANKING SYSTEM... We're talking 10s of thousands of individual computers ALL requiring $300 to not implode. In other words millions of dollars.... They are not after Joe Blow's family pics in Peoria. So don't bother trying to save your data. You are a pissant. I don't think the people that did this are even interested in money in the slightest. This is being done by the controllers to bring down the world. |

If you are using a router, any incoming internet packets are already discarded by default. You are safe if your computer is not connected directly to the internet, as long as no other computers on your network get infected by other means. If it gets behind your router's firewall it will spread like wildfire, but only if you haven't run windows update since march, or if you are running windows XP. Windows computers running vista or above are safe if they have updated in the past couple of months. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70732847 United States 05/14/2017 11:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm using VPCs more and more now. Its much easier to take snap shots of an OS and restore it. I'm on a VPC with Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS as I type. I'm getting used to Linux distributions the VPC way. There are many programs I use that require windows, so I put those on a Windows 7 pro 64 bit VPC. I also still use an XP VPC as to run certain software, that's locked down like nun wearing a Chastity belt. Virtual guest OSs are the future of computing IMO. Windows 10 is the host running VMware workstation pro. Not much is installed on the Host system. You might need a lot of RAM however. I have 32 GB of memory on a nice small form factor mini-ITX. |

Isn't the cloud a oceanic floating storage devise that can easily be targeted by NK? When it comes to NK. We know only what we are fed from a few "news" distributors, namely Reuters and the AP that is dispensed throughout the world's media outlets. So if the news says it's NK, then it must be NK right? I agree with others on this forum, the global fear mongering and spread of mal-ware comes from the top. Think about it for a min. Trillions of $$ just from the U.S. alone go unaccounted for each year. where does it go? Who and what does it feed? A breakaway shadow civilization? I don't know, but that's a lot of resources siphoned out of the world that seemingly vanishes. |
