Re: Picked up by ZeroHedge: I have been reviewing resumes and just keep face palming...
One question, how old are the people that are applying to work at your company? If you say they are all under 30 or the majority that apply whom of which are under 30 are the ones with bad resumes, then you have to be lying. I can guarantee a large portion of the people you see applying are at least in their mid 30's to early 40's, seeing as how those were the dominant ages in the manufacturing job market. Most of whom lost their jobs back in 08 during the start of the recession and are still picking up the pieces today.

Anyways, if you have someone else help you with your resume, it then becomes NOT your resume, due to outside assistance, therefore the resume you get presented with will be given by someone whom in your eyes didn't care enough or didn't want to work hard enough to put effort into said resume so they had someone else do it. At least the people with shitty resumes you can assume did it themselves and had enough courage to bring it in, in hopes of being hired for their work in presentation.

Just a thought.

A resume for bench work??

That's sort of like looking to buy a suit at the gas station.

Have them fill out applications with references, and then check them out that way. Interview them about their work asking pertinent questions about the tools or equipment, and then test the best ones on a bench.

OP and several others in here think that resumes are the most important thing in the world

Build a good one and get a job, or listen to the self-styled "experts" opinions about the necessity of resumes and get jack squat. Your choice.

Suit yourself.

If your goal is to find a large pool of qualified people for the type of work you need to have done so that you can pick the best all around person from that pool, do it the way I suggested.

If you're hoping lightning will strike in your favor, do it your way.
Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved.

. . . . as a side line I applied for a job at a top Public School. It was an Application Form. I usually don't apply if a company insists they will only consider Application Forms. On the second or third page it asked for my Nationality, but the drop down box only listed countries. Now, every time they advertise I still get annoyed about it.

Ummm duh....fucking learn to use google:

"In English and some other languages, the word nationality is sometimes used to refer to an ethnic group (a group of people who share a common ethnic identity, language, culture, descent, history, and so forth). This meaning of nationality is not defined by political borders or passport ownership"

Can ANY of the OP supporters in this thread explain why OP couldn't just have these people fill out regular applications?

The regular application tells you EXACTLY what to put and WHERE...hmmm, sounds a bit like manufacturing, doesn't it? Not much room on an application to be the douche who uses the expensive paper, includes his headshot, embellishes his accomplishments, puts his Masonic Lodge seal at the bottom, etc.

Good, old tried-and-true application.

Now THAT you need to be able to fill out or have someone help you do it but even if someone helps you do it the information is still there for the hiring agent and doesn't tell you one-way-or-another if the applicant can make a widget, reliably, until the interview.

Re: Picked up by ZeroHedge: I have been reviewing resumes and just keep face palming...
I own a small manufacturing company. Most of the assembly work is done at a bench, with hand tools. The work is not difficult, but quality and consistency is paramount.

We are entering into our busiest time of year, and steady growth combined with losing one of our senior bench techs has caused me to run some ads (after spreading the word around to friends and associates).

I have been involved in the manufacturing business for about 30 years, and have seen thousands of resumes.

The last couple weeks I have been reviewing a couple dozen resumes a day. What I am seeing now, is stunning and disappointing. When did people stop learning how to compose a sentence? When did they decide that a resume composed of two sentences is somehow complete? The poor level of spelling, grammar, and frankly effort has me perplexed and perpetually face-palming.

So far, I have two resumes that were not immediately round-filed. Just two.

If this is the current state of our potential work force, we are in trouble.
 Quoting: Azaziah

I have felt this exactly for some time now. It is mainly dealing with staff over the phone, where they do Not even know their own job, product or processes.

The cabal in their attempts to keep us dumb, ignorant and dependant are also taking apart people's basic ability to function. And this is not just intellectually, but physically also. The sheer number of children now with allergies, sensitivities or mental health conditions is astounding and getting worse.

Our only hope is that this whole system comes to a grinding halt, and they desist with the chemtrailing, vaccines, fluoride & gmos etc. etc.

Adding to my post above, I was listening to the radio several years ago - and I could not believe my ears!

They said about 50% (that is HALF) of all high school graduates applying for apprenticeships FAIL in meeting the minimum requirements for both Maths and English. WOW! I used to think most people could pass these subjects sleep walking. Wouldn't surprise me if the numbers are worse now.

You don't need to know how to spell or put a resume together to have a good resume, but if you fell into that category and still had a good resume, it would prove that you had some initiative and were able to do basic research on a computer in 2017 and apply thought.
 Quoting: Distant Echo

This assumes that it is always a good thing for an employee to apply thought.

Most jobs require no thought at all, just follow simple instructions and repeat ad nauseum.

You get a thinker in your midst and next thing you know it's all about how everything sucks and you're all doing it wrong and it would be better if and so on and so forth.

No, you don't always WANT a thinker.

Every employer, even for a simple assembly line job, prefers workers who can think for themselves. Sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes there is an emergency. Fast thinking, leadership, and intelligence are preferable in ANY capacity.

I hear you. But, grammatically speaking (and not a little ironically), your post should have said: "When did they decide that a resumé composed of two sentences is somehow complete? The poor level of spelling, grammar and, frankly, effort has me perplexed and perpetually face-palming.

But this is not a résumé, troll.

Our only hope is that this whole system comes to a grinding halt, and they desist with the chemtrailing, vaccines, fluoride & gmos etc. etc.

Yeahhhhhh fuck that whole system coming to a hault thing.....sounds like you need better leadership skills....all these "bussin owners" placing blame on employees are idiots....when your a business owner everything is your faul

- This is why Op wants to ensure an employee in his company has at least minimum writing skills.

Why? his employee is putting together a physical product, that has nothing to do with writing.....lemme guess you have never owned a business?

Your posting here just proves Op's point.

You are hired as a troll, not business owner, and they can't even find someone with good writing abilities or intelligence - and forced to take on people such as yourself.

But if you need workbench worker to put the few pieces together with the spanner and screwdriver, why the fuck they need to put CV in academic English?

English language literacy is considered overburden for pupils even in English speaking countries. You better try to get someone who can barely speak any form of English but understands how to assemble what you need.

From my experience, fuck that resume bullshit and start to talk to people. Takes you 2-3 minutes to figure out if the candidate knows what you are talking about, so you can take it to the next level.

If you go through the employment agency, it is even worse, you have failed house wife that wants to "build career" and gets to vet the potential candidates in the field that she has no clue about.

Bullshit about nicely written shit on the peace of paper without any actual knowledge is gone, world has changed, you need people that can do the job or are willing to learn.

Yea. It's too much to ask Americans to actually speak English. That's rich. Social engineering at its finest.

You want OP to weed through hundreds of applications by interviewing every one of them? How about you pay him for the time required.

I mean two post ago you didnt even understand what i was talking about lol.....does everything go over your head? Do you find that people slow down their words when they speak to you? And im a business ownet stating that I take responsibility for everything that happens in my business, blamr wheter it is deserved or not always for 100% on the owner.
