Ooh yeah, I've only ever made it with beer, and it's got to be pale beer cause the dark makes it bitter. Honestly cheaper is probably better in this case!

I bet red wine would be very good in it though, maybe similar to coq au vin...I might try that next time. thanks for the recipe!
