Millennials aren't ready for the 'reality of life' and suffer from panic attacks and anxiety problems
Maybe not ALL millennials, but MOST of them...

Millennials aren't ready for the 'reality of life' and suffer from panic attacks and anxiety problems, new research has revealed. A study of 2,000 young people preparing to start university found that many aren't ready for the challenges of living independently.

The research found that more than half of prospective students don't know how to pay a bill and that many believe that nights out cost more than paying rent. Researchers said that many would-be students have been left worried and confused by the prospect of leaving home to start higher education. The study found 61 per cent of millennials are anxious about the prospect of starting university, while 58 per cent are having trouble sleeping and 27 per cent are having panic attacks.

Students are worryingly unprepared

Researchers said the results suggest many would-be students are worryingly unaware of the challenges of university life. The poll found that 60 per cent of prospective students believed that they would spend more time in lectures than they did in school lessons.
But in practice, most university subjects take up much less time than school, with students on degree courses such as history often having fewer than ten hours of lectures a week. And while many participants considered themselves to be good with money, more than half admitted that they do not know how to pay a bill. Many students were also unaware that paying rent is the biggest cost for students after tuition fees.

Yup. They forgot to say they are entitled and think the world should revolve around their needs and anxiety. Especially if they have time blindness. How can they remember to set alarms if they're blind to time? What a dilemma.

Re: Millennials aren't ready for the 'reality of life' and suffer from panic attacks and anxiety problems
I have a child who will be graduating in June and living on a university campus two hours away come fall.

She's about as clueless as I was when I did the same in 1993.

Sometimes I'm thrilled and feel like she can handle it no problem, and then something will happen where I think, "Oh no this is going to be a disaster.

She'll learn what she doesn't know - we all do.

They know A LOT. But there are some things you can't really learn until you experience them. I feel like it was the same for us, and my own parents were more clueless than I was at that age, having never lived on their own.

They'll learn. There will be some frustration and some embarrassment and some humility.

Adulting is hard.

That's why parents are important.

It's our job to keep the situational anxiety from becoming a way of life.
When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die? Not me, my dear one - THIS IS MY SACRED LIFE - to no one nor no thing I'll surrender. For how does one know where when dead she will go, or if sweet Mother Earth he'll remember? - Sug

The youngest boomers are pushing 60.

They gave us GenXers a serious complex about parenting.

It's a wonder any of us had kids.

One thing is for sure ... a GenXer would never put a key around their kids neck and force them to be an unpaid babysitter and personal chef for the family every day.

That's why our (GenX's) kids are kind of clueless. We had enough of the involuntary servitude, scary situations and general neglect and we overdid it with letting the kids be kids, IMO.

No other parent I know (Xers) would berate or make fun of their college-age kid's anxiety. We'd be there for them to help with whatever it is, like we wished our parents were.

My boomer mom is soooo proud of taking me to little baby swimming lessons and throwing me in the pool to make me feel like I was drowning, so I could learn how to swim. I hate swimming and always have.

My kids can swim pretty good, and I never made them think they were drowning to do it. Progress.
