The fact that many Americans could not see what was so blatant and obvious to outsiders is a damning indictment on the state of US society, of a broken and dysfunctional nation where the media is unpalatable propagandistic lies, where education is vastly inadequate and where many people behave in ways utterly incomprehensible to the rest of the world whenever they have to deal with religion, politics or even something so mundane as getting along with the neighbours.

Trump is a symptom of a broken, sick nation and I feel no schadenfreude as I watch with horror the downward spiral of a once powerful country, a country that is obsessed with being ‘great’ or somehow ‘exceptional’, both sick lies inculcated into the American psyche. Somehow the American people are going to have to deprogram themselves, to cease to be Manchurian Candidates living in a perpetual state of narcissistic ignorance, to wake up and smell the coffee, or rather, the bullshit, and realise, rather than being great or exceptional they are virtual inmates inside a mental prison constructed for them by their own media and government on behalf of an elite that could not give two hoots about America or it’s people.

To all Americans, let Trump be your wake up call and for pity’s sake, wake up before it’s too late to salvage your nation. Ian]
