Sean Spicer holds first press briefing in weeks, invents “Majinsky Act” during another meltdown
For reasons known only to Donald Trump or whoever is running the White House at this point, Press Secretary Sean Spicer was sent to the podium today to hold his first press briefing since late June, back when we were all told he would no longer even hold that title. But, in a sequel that no one was asking to be made, Sean Spicer II came to life today, and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty.

As has become custom no matter who’s doing the press briefings these days, reporters were not allowed to capture video of Sean Spicer answering questions. And that may be for the best. Apparently someone forgot to brief Spicer on everything that’s happened in the past five days, because he was still using Donald Trump Jr.’s original excuse that his meeting with Russia was about adoption. But instead of blaming the Magnitsky Act, Spicer tried blaming something called the “Majinsky Act.” There is no Majinsky Act.

That led a number of reporters in the briefing to tweet out Spicer’s mistake (link), which of course led to endless punchlines and humiliation across social media. Donald Trump’s own attorney Jay Sekulow has also been caught referring to the “Majinsky Act” instead of the Magnitsky Act, which suggests to us that Sekulow is the one who briefed Spicer for this press conference. Does that mean Trump’s personal lawyer is now dictating what the White House says to the media?

In any case, by all reports, this was yet another bizarre Sean Spicer meltdown in front of the cameras, except there were no cameras. It’s also worth pointing out that the White House hasn’t allowed any of its press briefings to be videotaped since Donald Trump hired his son an attorney in late June. It raises the question of whether the two are related, and how.

The clusterfuck...to be continued....

OK, so Spicer went back to Junior's original story...nice.

Isn't it about time for Trump to pick one version for an excuse and stick with it?

Press briefings are now purely a dog and pony show for the MSM to strut around.
White House press briefings are a dated obsolete tool that is no longer relevant or useful with currently technology.
It's a relic of the past.

Here is what Sean said today:

"And there was nothing, as far as we know, that would lead anyone to believe that there was anything except for a discussion about adoption and the Magnitsky Act."

Say what? Well, yeah, that was Junior's original story, but he changed that. Does Sean read Junior's tweets? read the newspaper? Talk to Donald Trump?

Who told him to say that?

Maybe this is just feeding lies and confusion so that people start saying "the hell with this...who needs press conferences any more?"

It seemed more deliberate to me than just a Spicey misfire. This could be a sign of increased anxiety in the White House.

The Magnitsky Act was an attempted regime change in Russia via Obama US sanctions. A Clinton Foundation donor company was at the center, and Russia retaliated to the sanctions by ending all child adoptions to US.

Beyond Spicey's idiosyncrasies and propaganda, isn't it possible that he was told to deliberately 'walk back' the Jr story, back to just adoptions and the 'Majinsky' Act?

Trump Jr could have multiple legal issues here. Opinions about the value of oppo research and its meaning under the Federal Campaign Election Law are varied so Trump Jr may in fact be liable for more than just conspiracy and solicitation (I'm not an attorney).

It seemed more deliberate to me than just a Spicey misfire. This could be a sign of increased anxiety in the White House.

He isn't technically lying, Trump jr. Did say that nothing came from the meeting and all that was discussed was magnitsky act and adoption. Regardless of what Trump jr intended to get out of it, that's what he supposedly got. Politicians do this all the time, he's not lying, he is just telling only half the truth. That's how they work.

'as far as is known' there is nothing to lead anyone to believe that anything more was discussed. He is making a true statement from the point of view of the Whitehouse. 'as far as we know' means at this point in time they believe jr is telling the truth. Why would spicey restate what was said in the emails a)everyone knows already and b)he is PR for the WH. The fact is, jr states that nothing came of the meeting...if anything jr was telling a half truth, which is technically not a lie....spicey in his PR capacity was focusing on the results of the meeting and not the intention. Seems like the best move, really. Especially if they can come up with some proof that no valuable information was shared.
