Because those negative emotions don't hurt your enemy (or the sinner.) They hurt YOU. Forgiving and loving let's you transcend the hatred and pain and gives you a healthier spirit.

You can hate what someone does and what they stand for without hating them. After all, you don't know what led them to the course they're taking in life. Not hating them is not the same as supporting what they are doing.
