On the 4th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war, the newspaper USA Today has completed a poll of Iraqis, and the results are astounding. Compared to two years ago, where some in the Bush administration would say things were going swimmingly, things have decidedly taken a turn for the worse.
For the residents of Baghdad, the situation has literally fallen off a cliff.
Of 435 Baghdad residents polled who rated the following as 'good' as compared to 2005, halfway into the war-
In 2005, 79% of Baghdad residents rated the medical care as 'good'. Today, 0%.
In 2005, 78% of Baghdad residents rated the supply of 'basic things you need for household' as 'good'. Today, 0%.
In 2005, 68% of Baghdad residents rated the clean water supply as 'good'. Today, 0%.
In 2005, 51% of Baghdad residents rated the electricity supply as 'good'. Today, 0%.
In 2005, 88% of Baghdad residents rated their schools as 'good'. Today, 14%.
In 2005, 76% of Baghdad residents rated their protection from crime as 'good'. Today, 9%
Despite all the rosy prognostications from the White House, Iraq would seem to be an increasingly irreversable disaster area, when you ask the residents of Baghdad. I think this USA Today poll might turn some heads about where this war is headed.
