If they allow these monuments to be torn down, then I would suggest that we NEVER again fund a monument - what is the point?

Maybe the OP would not be here if slavery did not happen and maybe it all worked out for the best, but what you just asserted is just so much BULLSHIT......I can't even describe. It takes a smart man to see that history is put on display not for bragging rights, but rather to remember what we have gone through as a nation (both good and bad) to get where we are today. My family came to this country from Czechoslovakia under Nazi German rule and wanted to escape Fascism (Real Fascism, not millennial snowflake Fascism)
And Just like most Real immigrants entering our country the right way wanted to be here because of the freedoms we have ! These brainwashed idiot kids and the "grown kids"( that never had to grow up)
Have never seen true Racism or Fascism but are instead "Fighting for freedom from Fascism" because they have been fed the lies of the Left and the 60's radicals who "teach" in our schools and believe that anything that they disagree with is Fascism or anyone with an opinion or argument different than theirs is a Racist. We need to Clean up the mess they have made and hope that it isn't too late for our Beloved Country! These monuments stand as both a memorial for those that shed their blood on both sides as well as a reminder that this was something that we don't want to go through again (a history lesson)

shit.. my ancestors inherited 2 slaves and they were like blood relstives. my g. grandmother was one of 12 children, and everyone, parents, children (inc slaves cos they were like fam), all shared one fucking room in a one room house on a farm. They farmed to survive, not to profit. Life was fucking ruff for everyone. Our ancestors would slap us all on the back of the heads if they witnessed how we are now.

All the southern state had left the union a few years before some democrats who were in a democrat congress, just decided they need to come south and start the confederacy, here you scratch your head and ask Why? The ones had absentee plantations, not use about Johnson, he was as crazy as a loon, thought blacks were maybe half human. Not exactly as Davis who wanted slavery as many in the north did. The North in fact had more slaves than the south, now that maybe hard to believe but it a matter of history. They were at first exempt from the orders to free their slaves.

The reason why the South left was, Tariff a tax between states and no Lincoln did not write it, it was a democratic congress, they write the tax policies, all the South wanted was the tariffs removed. As for the black,, some fought for the Confederacy and their own freedom, they were commissioned they lead troops, the Union shot dead the first black found training to fight, why? It was after they saw the black fighting for the south that they said if we could allow the black to fight for the south, they could. Crazy I know, but this is part of history.

Most southerner were not slave holders, fact, they were mostly poor whites who had only their land to help them live. Slavery was not good for them, no jobs. They were drafted and if they did not fight and a lot said why should we fight? But they did, and fight they did, as hard as they could.

They were all punished again, the blacks in the south were punished, the Native Americans who fought were punished, it lasted way after the return to the Union, talking about oppression it lasted way up into 1950s. Yep, kept poor that was the thing.

We did win at least what started the war, no tariffs after the war. No taxes between states of commerce. Only if you have a business inside a state are taxes require of a business that has more than one branch of their business.

Black are as equal if not more so, than poor whites but they never understood this, it just what it is, nothing to get hyper about, if you live in a place you understand. Now, black got something to raise them up, also cause friends who were black and white, hurt, something about your white so you were our oppressor so you owe us. Yep, lot of tears because of this. Black off to college and white to the fields OK. we not to good to work.

Man I pick cotton, wild plum, dug sweet potatoes out of a field, cut cane, picked peas to by school supplies, and not one person thought there goes a poor person. We made our own clothes so they were tailored and conservative so the style did not change so those passed down and the hem on the skirt change that was the way, it worked. One thing there were more than just white in those field, it was blacks and whites who were not to good to work for their money even if it was hard. One thing I did not like much, picking up those sweet potatoes, they got cut and their sap was sticky and you had a hard time removing it.

That was in the 1960s when everyone else was doing their thing, we were surviving. I do not look on thinks as bad or good, it was a learning experience. In my life I had blacks and white, one black man and woman were like family more so than some of the blood one, could not prove by me he was not kin, just happens to be my favorite uncle, does not matter the shade of skin, it who is in the skin.

Best thing for you to do is keep reminding people that liberalism sure as hell doesn't make humans kinder, nicer or more honest or more ethical.

Point to all the libtardism that has infected black America for over 60 years and ask: Has that way of thinking, acting and voting made us a nicer, better, kinder, more humane, more stable, more honest, more caring group of people?

All the broken homes, broken families, broken economies and brazen violence and meanness would suggest otherwise.

Then point to leftist Venezuela, full of misery and high crime rates, if skeptics believe it's not cruddy liberalism that deserves blame or that the situation in America is unique to its racial history.

I appreciate your story but disagree about the intentions of the founders of the GOP.

The Republican Party was founded on the principle that slavery must be ended because of moral and ethical principles. The party was started in 1854 and got the Emancipation Proclamation through 9 years later. That's some pretty amazing progress for a political movement considering the slavery had existed for millennia before that.

So I think it's cynical to doubt that the majority of those who started the GOP were just using slavery as some wedge issue. That's bullshit and takes away from the courage and legacy of Abe Lincoln and many others.

Take some time to go back through GOP history from the founding, and I think you would be surprised how successful it has been as a political movement. I think that the Republican movement is the greatest in human history, surpassing even the founding fathers who didn't give women votes and the 3/5th's compromise.

Then compare it to the Democrats history. Good lord, the difference between the two parties could not be clearer. The Dems founded the KKK and the IRS, and that's about all anyone needs to know about them. They have killed and enslaved millions. Republicans have fought for the individual rights and liberties of millions.

I am going to tale you, I do not care about monuments but to some white and black people who had people in that war, in the south, do care, the monuments are similar to grave markers. They were brave men and some women but those should not be talked about.

All fought side by side, died side by side on both sides, and I may not care but the sons of the confederacy does. There are reenactments of the war, the Union and the Confederate, why, I have no idea but it is not just this war that has reenactments, they do it overseas for others wars.

It not any of my business why, it their freedom to do so, that good enough.

And I remember that the people that burned my great-grandmother's house and turned her and her mother and brother and sisters out into a Mississippi winter with no food or shelter were Republicans.
