Oregon has become nothing but a illegal drug economy full of addicts and there's so many arrests for possession of felony substances (meth and heroin mainly) that the court systems can't handle the felony load. Felony prosecutions are much more time and resource intensive than misdemeanors. Most of those charged are released without bail and never show up for court. This move is to reduce the burden on the prosecutors, public defenders and the court system.
