Hinduism is beautiful but I ultimately cannot get behind the Atman/Brahman construct of permanence. I have spent too many years learning to see Buddhist emptiness and dependent origination...impermanence.

I believe they are the same. Emptiness cannot exclude consciousness. If there is corruption then it goes more subtle, but nevertheless is consciousness.

There are ways in which they blend almost completely harmoniously. Many Hindu deities are also Buddhist Devas and of course both have tantric systems that resemble each other, especially in Shiavite aspects. The Buddhist concept of Tathagatagharba comes so close to Brahma/Atman and has often been accused of trying to slip permanence into Buddhism covertly. Indra and Brahma play roles in Buddhist cosmology.

Nevertheless there are differences, and the yogacara/Madyamika systems are particularly distant in their relentless focus on the archetectronics of emptiness. I suppose it is a case of overlap as much or as little as you like.

If I had another lifetime to study I would also love to explore the Jain system...many paths, one mountain...
