"Officials are reminding residents and visitors that burning bans will remain in effect until after Monday's solar eclipse.
He said the ban will only be in effect through the Willamette Valley region.
After the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse, however, Byers said "it will be business as usual" for field burning.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture can allow up to 15,000 acres to be burned annually.Historically, the department approves burning roughly 12,500 acres a year in the Silverton Hills.
The Marion County Fire Defense Board invoked a complete fire ban throughout Marion County on August 1 and will remain in effect until further notice. The ban was issued as a response to the triple-digit-temperatures and wildfire smoke from the Whitewater Fire burning east of Detroit.
City of Salem officials imposed a ban of their own that prohibits people from lighting recreational fires or open burning leading up to the eclipse, which includes campfires, bonfires and fire pits. Salem's burn ban will last until Tuesday, August 22.
Open fires are considered to be a hazard to the hot and dry conditions in addition to the dozen of fires blazing throughout the region. Cooking outdoors on some approved grills, however, is allowed, according to the Salem Revised Code and the Oregon Fire Code. People must constantly pay attention the fire until it is extinguished."

Now imagine what would happen if just one of these people tosses out a lit cigarette, or a car sitting in all this traffic pulls off the side of the road and the muffler ignites the grass? Judging by the amount of people backed up in this traffic jam, surrounded by dry trees and now way for fire fighters to get in or out, this could turn out to be one of the worst disasters in US history.
