There is Karate Kid part 1, and Karate Kid 2 where he's in Japan, and there's a KD 3 with a girl karate kid, and there's the tv series, 3 seasons, with the same actors some 20 years later in their stories.

So.. If it's a case of misplaced memory and we are all getting it wrong, then why are we all getting the same things incorrect and all remembering the same incorrect item. It's not like someone remembers a pink one, another a blue one, we all remember it the same in a group.

Here's a still image from the movies where the lighting makes the bandana seem bluish.. I saw another where it seems greenish.. Lots of things can mess memory up!

this is a large group of people , not a couple with some misplaced memories.

I could understand a group of people all remembering different incorrect things from the movie, but when a large group all recalls the same incorrect memory then it needs looking into some more and not easily dismissed.

Why not? The rising sun was popular. When you think karate, you think Japan even though it originated in Okinawa.

Only problem is Miyagi was very Okinawan. Certainly he resented the Japanese occupation of Okinawa. Given Miyagi's substantial character development in this regard it would be totally non-sensical for him to have the Japanese symbol.
