Hurricane Harvey could cause $40 billion worth of damage on Texas coast!!!

The impact will be much biger. Epic i say. Large area of Texas/LA destroyed and parts inabitable for a long long time!

This is at least 75 million people with impact and 5 million with extreme impact. This will have a huge economic impact on US. I know there are critical structures there but don't know much about it...

Here are a few tips to riding out the storm and the aftermath if you are stuck in the hot zone.

First of all, listen to guidance issued by the NHC, NWS, and local and state authorities, as well as emergency response departments. A wind-up WX radio is a great item to have in a disaster.

If your power goes out, and it most likely will, DO NOT use candles if you can avoid it. Using flashlights, electric lanterns, or sitting in the dark is a much preferable option to accidentally starting a fire.

If you have pets, keep them in a cage or carrier, so you can keep track of them.

After the storm has passed, DO NOT venture outside more than needed. AVOID debris, flooded areas, and power lines, even if you think they are dead. They might not be.
Be wary of displaced animals such as snakes, that might swim in the floodwaters. I don't know about anyone else here, but I highly dislike snakes.

Hilarious, Luisport. Not blind at all. I'm at a Pilot station watching off and on a FoxNews cast about the hurricane approaching South Texas. So far it's not much at all. Big whoop. It doesn't seem to be any different than any other hurricane, Luisport. Calm down and rationally think things through, and things will be better for you, easily.

Prayers for everyone in the path. And prayers for everyone in the aftermath of all the flood waters.

I'm sorry my friend but you are not seeing this. I'm not overreacting. People sayed the same thing wen i warn about Sandy. Then two peoples sayd i saved her lifes.
Now i say this is Biblical and large parts of Texas/LA will be destroyed and some parts inabitable for a long time!

One thing that i like to see discussed is the important big structures that exist on impact area. I'm very worried with this issue.

I thought the "widespread" devastation that Sandy left behind was more local and sporadic. That's what I got from a number of YouTube videos that I saw about the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. I wonder how much of this will adversely affect North Texas where I am at...

The high winds and extreme heavy rain are way up there in altitude. It's not affecting anything at sea/ ground level other than light rain bands and some gusts.

Like oil refineries and such?

I hope not, Luisport. Even the NWS and FoxNews weather forecasts show that a significant amount of rainfall will eventually come to North Texas from this hurricane...

In terms of economic impacts, nearly one-third of America's refining capacity currently sits in the path of the storm and large E&P companies have already started to evacuate staff from offshore rigs which will reduce oil imports to the Texas coast.

"Biggest impact of this storm will be a significant reduction of crude oil imports into the Texas Gulf Coast, resulting in refineries cutting crude rates,” Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates in Houston, said by email. “There will also be a significant impact on petroleum product exports impacting supplies into Mexico.”
