I can give some tips. There will be TONS of "rumors." Funny - nobody really knows where they start! Your freezer WILL BE GOOD, and all food saved for AT LEAST 3 days - IF YOU KEEP IT COMPLETELY CLOSED. I had to leave town for 2 days, when I got back, still all my food - fridge AND stand-up freezer was all still cold. I never lost one single item from my freezer. When we got back, we hooked up our generator and plugged in the freezer and everything was saved. If no generator, try to get ice to keep as much food cool as you can. National Guard will start to come around handing out ice soon....get the whole family to go get a bag each to try to save as much of your food as you can. Then, if you start to cook the food, over a barbeque or microwave (again, if a generator is handy), you can then chill it in cooler with ice and it'll keep for a few days. How long you are out of electric depends on where you are "on the grid." Literally, some folks who live in our town had electricity restored the NEXT DAY as they were on the same grid as hospital and fire stations, etc. We were out 11 days. |

I hate to see the high school in Rockport go down. I think it would be incumbent on the county and school district in the future to build high schools...really all schools, to withstand certain wind levels and to elevate them to prevent flooding. Quoting: Big Daddy D It could be a win/win for the residents and students. Hopefully, they'll start taking some of this to heart. And have an evac plan in place. Geez. No doubt. We still haven't learned enough from previous storms. We've also learned people are just stupid. HWR The US is a One Party State controlled by a small cadre of Financiers Big Daddy D |

My family went to 3 different shelters, then simply made our way back to our home to ride it out. Man that was a crazy night. The night the lights went out in the New Orleans area. Hang the meat well above the flames and very slowly smoke cook it into jerky. Not too much heat. You can do chicken that way also. On the side of the fire on a flattish rock dry any fruit you may have (like banana chips). Prayers for all of you on the coast and take the flood warnings serious!!! Stay safe!! |
