Regarding those 4 steps in the OPs post, I'm not disagreeing with them.
However, I don't recall anyone in the New Testament that Jesus forgave the sins of, saying these things to Jesus. So it indicates to me that perhaps its completely and 100% Jesus' decision to forgive your sins or anyone's sins. Regardless of what you do. Regardless of whether or not you say those 4 steps.
If I'm wrong, and I may very well be, please correct me.
