Ought be able to build your own shack over a week or two
I really believe that with the help of my friends I could build a perfectly fine shack, mostly free in a very short time. Pioneers did it!

Actually I've seen this happen during the 60s in the hills above Ukiah, CA.

A whole bunch of hippies went into escrow on an old ranch, Greenfield Ranch. Then they built weird motley houses for damn near free.

Yes, the inspectors showed up to scuttle the project, "tear them damn hippy houses down," they ordered.

About two hundred hippies said, "no," and ran the very surprised inspectors off the mountain.

Gov. Jerry Brown jumped into the bash and got Alternative Housing passed through the State Legislature--something like that.

Anyways those houses are still there, some are pretty cool. I especially like the cave houses.

What do you do?

Dig it!

Ever see the film. One Mans Wilderness? Old guy moves to Alaska and builds a nice cabin. All hand tools. I could watch it about a hundred times and get something more from it.

Can you dig it? Yes I can. I will pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Who is the man. . . Shaft. '23 skidoo. Take time with a wounded hand.
I want to live in a very small house with a huge basement. I have a dream. Small house. Large basement The Iceberg house. This house will be built on an underground spring in Florida and connected to Alaska. My house will honor Mara of the Wilderness and Babes in Toyland. Perhaps, the Moonspinners and Fantasia and Mary Poppins. The shark tank will be for the Illuminati, like David Rockefeller. Me: David, would you like to see my ultra-modern Iceberg House? David: Okay. Me: Don't tell anyone you're coming. David: Okay. Me: Watch out for the sharks, David. David: arrrghh, my stomach is gone.

I want to build my own house, but all the large chunks of land are owned by the state, banks or absentee owners. I can't even afford 5 acres.

Re: Ought be able to build your own shack over a week or two
my parents have an abandon land on Cuahutla Morelos Mex
No water or electricity on the land ...it will take some $$ $ pesos to build a couple of rooms and septic hole for bathroom.
Enough land with avocado and lime trees...
I was thinking on this new houses build out of soda bottles full of sand and water glue together with viscosity of the maguey (Mexican savila where we get the agua miel, pulque and is a close cousin of the agave of Tequila) It will take me a year if I doing it alone

It is close to Amatlan Morelos where it says Quetzalcoatl use to land (also close to the Tepozteco, holy montain where the Gods land)

link?

(just joking around...)

I've got another weblink somewhere that shows a very cool little place made out of a train boxcar. probably a shipping container would work too. or scavanged plywood.

I'm not moving for awhile, though...I like my apartment.

Bullcrap.

Communes were awesome, experimental then, pretty standard now, they are called households.

Be a good idea to learn the lifestyle again.

Sounds wild & inventive, the majority of trucks I've seen were form moving trucks, & even some old ford pick ups converted. One time I saw one complete with a miniture victorian house on the back, complete with porch...like the haight on wheels :)

Watched the Beatniks build houseboats now in Sausalito area.

Some friends made the mistake of setting sail--never heard from them again...
