Wow thanks for pointing that out. I had to go check it out and I also remember it was 1997. I was in highschool watching it on tv in my parents bedroom.

If it took place in 1999 i would have been in college and i didnt have access to live tv then.

They're changing datez and facts because they can. Everyone gets info from the internet now so its easy to mess with peoples memories.
