I always thought it was just brought about by sheer greed, but who knows how long this has been affecting him?
That area of the brain primarily controls emotional regulation and executive decision making. Those are two areas in which he has been publicly unstable on many occasions.

Trying to use a "confession" against him that he was tortured into giving is pretty disrespectful of POWs everywhere. There's plenty to dislike about him, without disrespecting POWs.

If he has brain cancer, what the hell is he doing actively undermining our President on a daily basis and singlehandedly keeping the "repeal and replace" from happening? Why isn't he in the hospital or "spending time with his family" instead of driving America onto the rocks?

Exactly. It's in his own words that he stated he has a very poor prognosis. I think he lacks the judgment to step down.

You might also want to keep in mind that he also single-handedly gave out all of the information about US military aviation plans, while his fellow POWs did not. McCain's squealing directly killed more pilots than all of the previous enemy efforts.

Unfortunately, it's not. He killed a whole bunch of people on the Forrestal, and sang like a bird when he was captured by the commies. The only reason he didn't spend the rest of his life rotting in prison is because Nixon pardoned him as a favor to his father who was a big Naval hero.

Or maybe they'll decide, since they're dying anyway, to take some younger assholes with them.
