User ID: 25391521 United States 10/11/2017 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are correct. I am watching it right now. Trees all around. Leaves still on them all. And in the middle of the trees smoking rubble. someone hit someone This is not uncommon. Homes can burn when the forest around them doesn't. One example I recall was the 2000 Los Alamos fire. What is going on here is that many of the trees next to homes are getting enough moisture from lawns etc that their live fuel moisture is good. The homes are dry because of roofs and they don't have a root system sucking up moisture. However, the forests nearby are tinder dry. No one is watering them and they are burning hot and fast. So the trees/brush away from homes is toast. LOOK AT EACH FUEL and its location. Full disclosure. I had a forty year wild land fire career. this is true lots of evidence from other fires [link to media2.s-nbcnews.com (secure)] but what started the fires to begin with? Yes, thanks for making it clear. It's obvious, but people seem to be so hysterical here on GLP about nothing and everything these days, it's worrisome. Just like nutcases on the streets of Berkeley announcing the end of the world and whatever, in the good old days. Of course, it's not just here but the social net in general. Exactly right - she is comparing fires that were engaged by fire suppression and firefighters. Most of the structures destroyed in the Napa fires were allowed to burn because it happened so fast and the focus was on saving life not property. |

Tires flat and all the windows broken. I don't know how to embed the picture, but house after house in the view from above are gone, and yet the trees are there and many are still green. Just like CA. try this link for a picture of part of the big Bastrop fire. [link to ww4.hdnux.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 6450815 United States 10/11/2017 11:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Uh... Yeah That's why they're calling them wildfires, and forest fires Because the trees are full of water and don't burn. Makes sense. The only things that burn are the dried grass, underbrush, and dead or dying trees... Older healthy trees come back just fine... Never actually been out of your Mommy's basement, have you... Please listen to this guy and everyone shut up. Some trees actually NEED wildfires to reproduce. Man-made shit is just that, big piles of dried kindling shit. Of course it burns first. Throw a fresh green log on the fire next to a pice of your siding or framing and tell me what happens. |

Leaves still on them all. And in the middle of the trees smoking rubble. someone hit someone Where were any of you educated? Trees, being ALIVE, have moisture traversing inside. Their wood is moist and thus less flammable. Homes are made from long dead trees, with wood that is totally dried out, and thus far more flammable. This isn't rocket science. You should KNOW this stuff. The fact that you don't is shameful. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4255672 United States 10/11/2017 11:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | To understand this fire you had to be there. The wind was blowing embers sideways with 50 mph gusts. It was like a giant natural bellows fanning the embers to white hot in places. The embers flew through the air and landed on rooftops and were kept alight by the wind. Trees and other plant species in NorCal actually need fire to reproduce in many cases. They have survived for a long time with these types of winds and firestorms. It's just the silly humans that put flammable structures in areas that average a fire every 15 years. The fires are not defying the law, the fires are the law. |

That certainly is not right. This is all either CGI reality or someone using some advanced weaponry or means of destruction upon us all. It is a real shame that there is no one that we can trust to tell us the truth. Quoting: Dr__Doom Lets build houses made of wood in areas that are prone to fire, tornadoes etc. Makes sense. Insurance, you raise an interesting subject. Considering all of the destruction from the hurricanes and these fires, how can insurance companies possibly cover the losses? Will the Fed have to bail them out? Are rates going to quadruple? I do not see how it can continue at this pace. It appears to be unsustainable.
