Trump Administration To Declare Opioid Crisis A Public Health Emergency
The Trump administration will declare a public health emergency to deal with the opioid epidemic Thursday, freeing up some resources for treatment. More than 140 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So we will funnel more taxpayer dollars to more alphabet agencies with the end result being: The War On Drugs is a failure.

People are dying from fentanyl, fentanyl laced heroin, fentanyl made into bootleg prescription pills and widely available & stronger mexican heroin.

The Mexican cartels recognized that the USA was trending towards marijuana legalization. So they needed a new cash crop. Opium poppy production dramatically increased. Heroin production processes were refined resulting in a much stronger product. The cartels had their new cash crop.

In the meantime the ever industrious Chinese found that they could mass produce fentanyl analogs. Drugs that were in a legal grey area but that still had the deadly effects of actual fentanyl. So they had another cash cow: exporting fentanyl analogs to the US.

And the two drugs met in the US and came together like chocolate and peanut butter. Instead of being an inner city problem heroin addiction is now found in it's way to rural and suburban America with it's deadly impact. Add in the Fentanyl being sold as everything from heroin to percocet to THC to space tabs and you have a recipe for disaster. Which is what we have.

Is the government finally going to act against the cartels? Are we going to insist that the Chinese start arresting the makers of fentanyl analogs? Are we going to get a grip on our southern border?

My guess is no, no, and no. As per usual the alphabet agencies will go after the low hanging fruit. Street users in poor neighborhoods. And I would guess in this case they are also going to go after Grandmas percocet. Yea you may not even notice it but Grandma has been taking percocet for years to help her to deal with the crushing pain of one sort or another. They will take that away too. I wonder what Grandma will do? Buy pills from the street? Nah. She will try the non-opioid pain pills that she already tried years ago. They still won't work. So she will be left to deal with the pain and also with the withdrawals. Will she try to take her own life? That is certainly a possibility. But hey, if she tops herself that's one less Social Security check to cut. Bonus! Well for someone anyway.

The cartels will go on unscathed as will the industrious Chinese. Nothing will change because the root cause will not be addressed much less remedied.
