I'm only in my 40s, but already, I don't see much point or much to look forward to in hanging around another 20 or 30 years, growing older and watching myself, my capabilities, and my life opportunities decay with each passing year.

I think it would be more merciful and reasonable if the average human took a dirt nap at age 50 or so. Just because our modern way of life has enabled us to live to 70 and far beyond..is it necessarily a good and desirable thing?

I hope euthanasia is legal and readily available in the future. It should be a basic human right in an era with 7.5 billion mostly unnecessary people, especially with so much widespread misery, and the ever-continuing depletion of resources.

If you're feeling sick, a few days can seem to long.

It's not about years, but more about quality of life. So do your best to stay healthy.

Dear OP, look into potassium chloride, which is sold as salt substitute in the store.

70 isn't nearly enough! I'm sorry you're feeling down, OP. I have at times, too. But since May have been on a mostly vegan, wheatless, sugarless diet, and I look and feel much better. I'm 68, and at a recent gathering people told me I look 50 to 55.

I still have responsibilities, but am retired. I look forward to being able to plein-air paint more. Have just started, and it is wonderful! There's something about being out in nature in the morning and painting. Good for the soul.

So I hope you can do what's right for you, but I certainly don't want to check out early. There's still too much to do!

The error in your assessment is that finite life is here for the purposes that those finite life forms want or determine.

that's a shame

there are so many points that don't involve growing old with another person

like growing old with lots of people

seeing lots of things
experiencing whatever floats your boat

all these things can be enjoyed without a partner

and you are far more likely to meet a partner - if that's what you feel is your sole purpose

if you are out and about enjoying yourself

but if you'd rather just leave early , that is ultimately , your choice

good luck :)

Well you're basically wrong about your preconceptions. In just about 15 yrs from now true life extension technology will come along, this is what is said by the top experts in the fields, and what they mean is by that time science will start being able to extend your lifespan, and you'd reach a kind of escape velocity to immortality as each passing year the technology improves and your extended lifespan increases. TO GET TO THE POINT! Life extension technology is inherently about rejuvenating every system in your body back to a healthier younger state, and about curing all the diseases related to ageing, this means you wont find yourself getting old and decrepit and low energy when in your 70s instead you'll look and feel like you're in your 20s or 30s... So now imagine yourself being 25 yrs old for hundreds of years... is that too much, will you get bored of all the sex and adventure and projects you could undertake? maybe...

What?! I'm 39 and still feel very young. 50 is the new 40... I want to live as long as possible if I still feel good. 120! Imagine the technology you would get to see!

Really?

Parrots live longer than most humans. We got robbed on our lifespans.

I think 600 years would be ok. I could do everything I want to do in that span of time. Could bed hundreds of beautiful women. Sail around the world. Climb Everest. Read thousands of more books. Etc etc. life is awesome.

Thats why there is a medical problem. Old people want to stay alive for an extra decade while they are senile and immobile. Paying for all of that medication and care is breaking the system.

No, and think thats a very shillish thing to post.

We want thousands of years in young, healthy and free bodies, with beamships in our backyard.

With nary an elite in site because all of the demon rats have been hauled off and put in cosmic jails.

That's it! Nothing less is every allowed or will be accepted.

The technology in the pipeline such as ability to live virtually indefinitely which will be possible if you can wait another 25 years,, means that all diseases of ageing will be cured, no dementia, no alzheimer's, no brittle bones, no saggy skin, no cancer, no blindness, no deafness, no impotence.
Please tell me you didn't actually think life extension technology was all about prolonging the life of frail demented impotent old geriatrics?????

You much not understand life goes on even for the older people. My, my what a weird brain you have. Seventy is not old compare to a hundred and more. If our lifestyle was more like our ancestors in the 1800s we would be healthier and more producing and happy at 90 to a hundred or more years. I speaking from the experience of 2 over a hundred year old great grandfathers who were still active until right before they passed form this world.

There was no social security or health plan back then. So, what happened to those extra healthy years? Are we being told the truth today, NO, we are not.

Why do any of you serfs think that, even if this life extension technology exists, it will be made available to you? More likely, it will be more reason for the Elite to kill us off and utilize it for themselves. It all sounds creepy to me anyway..wanting to live as 25 year olds indefinitely.

And where does that leave future generations..just abort them all and use their tissues to prolong your youth, or just have everyone sterilized? Sounds worse than Brave New World, this idea of wanting to live forever.

Too bad life isn't in the form of a rise and then a 100 year plateau when you get to the age of 25-35 and then a mild sawtooth decay for the last 25-35 years...

Instead, it looks more like a pyramid with exponential decay on the backside...
