Would you put to sleep a 17 year old English Mastiff whose back legs have finall failed?? | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 37692037 United States 11/21/2017 08:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We have an old english mastiff...awesome girl. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37692037 Been going downhill for the past year. Just slowing way down, getting wobbly and all that. Old as fuck, average lifespan about doubled with this tough girl. Ive been having to help her stand for a little while now but she always managed after that. Well, an occasional spill here and there but sometimes she got up all by herself. Today it seems like she had a stroke or something, but only affecting her back legs. I purchased a sling to aid in her walking but her back legs went retard. They cross and she curls her feet under so I have to correct them before setting her down. Once her feet are in place, she then proceeds to walk and it happens all over again I dont know what to do. Finally got her to pee outside but thats all the strength she had... |

My beloved Doberman got hip displacia and his legs would spread out behind him. Finally he couldn't walk anymore so we had to say goodbye. My dad took a week off of work he was so devastated and he is a real tough guy. If he is suffering it would be merciful. They hang on for you, and you sort of have to let them know you will be ok and they are relieved. Again, so sorry. My mom carried her Basset up and down the steps for a year before making the decision. It's rough. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 67473544 Canada 11/21/2017 08:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At Easter, my sister's 18 year old cat was unable to move her legs. We weren't sure what was wrong because my sister had said that she had started to stiffen up over the last few months. We took her to the vet's the next day and were told that she had had a stroke and that she was in pain. It was heartbreaking seeing her unable to really move. She was a tiny little thing and really couldn't move without her back legs. She was also getting very frustrated during the night. All my sister had to hear was that she was in pain. :( |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 37692037 United States 11/21/2017 08:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah its a tough damn call. But somethings got to be done. If wealthy enough i would hire a fulltime nurse. Get her a wheelchair thing, all that, But isnt the case. We got to work or theres no food or medicine for her anyway. Plus shes outlived her lifespan by 7 years at least. Thats what im telling the wife when she gets back. But then again maybe tomorrow will be better for Haley.. IDK |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75430666 United States 11/21/2017 08:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sad. Sorry. I let my own 16 yr old girl live too long as a shadow of the uber doggie she once was and it broke both our hearts. She still had an appetite, too... but there are other considerations. After having to rescue her from collapse several times a day, losing sleep due to her incontinence and suffering myriad dirty looks from dog lovers who obviously thought I was neglecting her, for months, she finally told us she was in pain and we put her down while holding her in our arms. I feel the heartbreak 8 years later and have avoided a new pup due to not wanting to endure it again... but avoiding pain avoids love. Don't let it go on so you can avoid the hurt. Be a good friend. End the life before it gets too painful... in all ways. I recommend staying for the shot and holding her as she leaves, as it is simply going to sleep. I am glad I did not leave her alone for the vet to do it. Sincere feels... all dog lovers sympathize. |

Seen it with a number of older pups, that for some reason a simple bladder infection causes their hind legs to become useless. Maybe use fish anti-biotic if money is an issue. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75872249 Now be a big boy/girl and deal with killing it. My grandmother came from your country. Moved to USA, raised livestock and farmed, worked her ass off til 95 years of age to feed you troll ass. Respect son How did she feed me from the USA? LOL, this doesn't make sense And also I bet that's what she had in mind the whole time "Hmmm, I'm gonna move to the US and raise livestock so that I can feed it to the trolls in Poland so that one day they can troll my grandson into oblivion" |
