The first season was awesome. The second was good too, if slow. The third and fourth were also good. After that it has kinda sucked. But the last few years have been really awful.

It is just a soap opera. The zombies are used for plot contrivances. You won’t see them unless they need to make a situation suddenly more urgent.

The first three episodes of this season have been one long, boring gun battle. Occasionally a main character gets a gun drawn on them only to be saved by some miracle.

What has been especially bad is all the time jumps in an attempt to be artistic. What made this show so good was the realism. The lack of music was great. The backdrop of worn out southern locales was perfect. They’ve gotten away from that and just become a ridiculous soap interspersed with some action. It has become a show I’ll have on in the background. It may soon be one I just don’t watch.

Night films and TV episodes are cheap to make. They require no skill in terms of camera work, effects, lighting, set decoration, makeup, acting, you don't have to give a shit about anything. You just film it, put it in the can. Nobody can see how shitty it all was because it's just a black screen with a few lighter shadows floating around it.

They must have had a huge budget cut. All they can afford to pay is the actors.

I have a feeling it's going to get cut a whole lot more too. The actors are next to see the cuts. It's just like re-heated week old hash anyway. Same old, same old, but now shot in darkness. Whoo! Apart from the first season, the plot is always:

1) The group recovers from a battle with the previous Bad Guy.
2) They think they're doing sort of OK and plan for the future.
3) They run into another group.
4) It doesn't matter if the group is hostile or not, they always end up fighting it.
5) Zombies are just a mechanism to create mayhem (you're right about this).
6) At the end of the season, they either win (at a great cost) or end up defeated/captured.
7) Repeat and rinse.

It grew sort of boring after season 3. I didn't bother watching every episode of seasons 4-7.

Stragely, I've found the latest season more interesting than the previous few. Negan's such a powerful character and even though he comes across as the bad guy, you can't really see any fudamental difference between the Saviours and many people in Rick's group (Daryl and Tara, in particular). The differences are superficial and the moral ambivalence always intrigues me in fiction.

Commented on this a couple of weeks ago on here that they're gonna have a problem with Carl coz the timeline didn't make sense anymore. His TV character is crap anyways, so won't miss him.

I know! I couldn't see a damn thing! I thought they killed Jerry at first. Although, as soon as I saw that unknown guy sitting in the back seat at the start, I knew he was going to be a red shirt for this ep.

I've ever had only one real problem with this show....Human beings have never had any problem killing ANYTHING!

The first time the walkers showed up the government would have said, "Kill the zombies, no bag limit, Prizes for the largest and grossest!" and by morning the Zombies would be fleeing into the woods in terror of what madness we're capable of.

Zombies would have been wiped out in less than 24 hours.
