We are free to practice the religion of our choice (baptist) and to seek out Gods word.... Quoting: Carnac But that would not be while walking down the street when some guy is accusing me of sins while shouting. That is not preaching... There were a lot of things those two could have done to show their Christian faith that would not have resulted in arrest and would have shown Christianity in a positive light. I have to agree with you here. The guy was yelling at everyone and put his pulpit in the middle of the street for maximum attention. There are better ways to reach people than being aggressive like this one was. Yelling at them in an accusatory manner is only going to push people away not bring them to Christ. My father was a preacher and had a water well business. He reached people by "talking" to them individually and trying to reach them on a personal level without being judgmental. He also provided charitable works for those who really needed it even if they didn't know they needed it or were too proud to ask for help. Actions speak louder than words, no matter how high your volume is. I can't stand it when preachers come across like this one does. It's not a good image at all. If your actions are pushing people away from Christ, you are not preaching the Word of God. This one is definitely pushing people away. He had an out, when she asked him to "tone it down". He refused. Asking him to tone it down is way different that telling him to pack it up and to home. She never instructed him to stop. He could have done things differently and avoided arrest. |

He said this morning that the cop was a rookie and just did not know the law. Does he really not understand that yelling at people on the street makes HIM the dickhead here? Illegal or not, rude is rude. 'illegal or not' That is the point... the arrest was unlawful. His speech might be offensive to some, welcomed by others. The point is that we (you, me, and Sam) are free to speak. |

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. My statement stands. I will add that people have the right to own guns... they do not have the right to stand on the sidewalk and shoot people innocently walking by. Its a short step from saying one can't preach on a public sidewalk, to saying one can't talk about Jesus in public, to one can't carry a bible in public, to one can't wear a cross necklace in public. Let me ask you and others. If you happen upon a gay pride parade, do you call the police and attempt to have them arrested because half naked men simulating sex acts in public is offensive? No? Why not? Oh yeah. They have a parade permit and total political support to be in your face obnoxious. No. What you do is ignore the gay pride parade. You go away, go home and allow them to exercise their right to be obnoxious, loud, pushy and worse. |

Since he got 'bailed out' I assume that there are charges? I'd be willing to bet though that if this was an Imam shouting the Koran getting arrested you'd be first in line to shake the officer's hand and give him a donut. If you want to be some crazy asshole shouting at everything that moves, just go home. Get some goldfish. Yell at them instead. |
