This guy is called "Stroebele", yet his DNA test doesn't show german.

"I have church records from the LDS that prove my German "Stroebele" ancestors lived in southern Baden-Wurttemberg beginning around the year 1700."

This is where everybody goes wrong. Just because a family lived somewhere for a time, it doesn't mean you're ethnically from that region. If I move to Italy and stay there for 10 years, my kids won't show Italian, even if the records show I lived there for a decade. Use your brains, people.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70770227

So true, we humans are constantly migrating. This is where it pays to get into the actual LDS record, ie the microfilm, which is listed with the online info. When it comes to Germans though, they were extremely thorough in their record keepings, assuming Napoleon hadn't destroyed them. He loved burning churches.
The Stroeble record above can be ordered through a local FHC. Then you find the record and read it, (say birth/baptismal record) it will list a treasure trove of info, parents, grandparents, occupations, Aunts and Uncles etc. Where they were from. Those others will usually be sprinkled liberally throughout that same film, painting a picture of solid roots in the area, or not. This is always a preponderance of the evidence thing anyways.

Got my results on Dec 27th. 100% European. Mostly northern with some eastern mixed in. Not a single drop of black blood in my veins. I wasn't surprised though.

Even the advertising in TV already goes "I always thought I was german, but then I made this gene test..".

Probably some bullshit deep state to convince people they aren't german, even though they are.

I can't recall the name of the documentary I watched
--long time ago--but there was the comment that many
people coming into the U.S.A. could give a sir name
without any documentation at all and it would be recorded
as they said to the official. That means, also, that
some people could choose a totally different name than
their family--maybe to get away from some negative stuff
from the country of origin for whatever reason.

There was also a change in spelling in some cases which
would change the way the name was pronounced. Many even
dropped their family name totally and went for "Smith"
(we all know about that one!)

I'm enjoying the Ancestry program on cable now as they
trace family trees of certain celebrities. They had
Christopher Walkin and Carly Simon last time and that
was fun to watch.

Great topic, OP.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."

Was always told I was German with some Irish.

I'm not German at all. Predominantly Scandinavian, with Irish/Scottish as the second most prominent.

No American Indian either, as I was also told.

Big shocker for me.

Anyone else do this?

 Quoting: Deplorable Azila_Again

For me the biggest surprise was 30 % Scandinavian.

No oral or paper traditional of that on either side.

Best guess is that Norse may have snuck in with invasions of the british Isles.

My Indian was verified at very close to the 1/8th level we thought.

These tests are a fraud.
"Inside Edition" did triplets & all 3 tests were different.

When Inside Edition had a set of triplets send their spit in to Ancestry.com and 23andMe, they got wildly different results from both services. Neither gave each triplet the same ancestry results.

That British propaganda was debunked years ago. It's right up there with "we waz kangs".
In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.

“Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.”

Did the Ancestry DNA one. Had been told we were Welsh and 1/8 Cherokee Indian. Test for me and my siblings came back mostly Irish and 0% Native American. Was all European with a small amount of central Mongolia. I am assuming it means I am a decendant of Genghis MFing Khan. rockon
 Quoting: LoneStarRising

I'm seeing a common trend here.
Many of us who know we have Native American ancestors are coming back with none in DNA.

Which means that the Native Americans were fooled out of their land and then killed in the 1622 Indian Massacre before they could claim DNA ties to the King of England.
 Quoting: MissCleo

I think for some reason people wanted to claim Native American heritage when it did not exist. Not sure why. Both my Mom and Dad were told they were1/8 Cherokee. I have heard this from several people. Thought they were of Cherokee heritage but came back 0%.

Have you looked at the old Cherokee pictures? They look Jewish! And some have turned out to have Jewish DNA

Re: Anybody take a genetic DNA test and shocked by the results?
Well, mine came back consistent with my father's ancestry (almost entire Dutch back 10 generations, so it showed West/Northern European ) but does not match my mother's ancestry back 10 generations - all of her ancestors came from Ireland (with one from Wales who moved to Ireland and married) beginning in the early 1600's. None of that showed on my DNA report, only "Scandinavian."

I also had 7% Balkan (?) and - here you go, doubters - 1% Nigerian. Have a feeling that one got tossed in for flavor by whoever made the report.

Having traced my ancestry and the locations of birth of all my ancestors back to the 1500's, I am really half Dutch (father) and half Irish (mother), for all practical purposes.
 Quoting: galvanic

Maybe, the test is confusing irish with Scandinavian. Same thing happened to me. 17% Scandinavian and no Irish, when I'm sure I have a Irish great grandfather and no scandinavian ancestor that I'm aware off.

I don't have the slightest idea where my 15% native north american is coming from either.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75205159

Read up on the ancient history of Ireland. They came from Scotia and Egypt and Spain and mixed with Picts thought to be possibly an Eskimo relative. Then in came French, Danish and Viking raiders.

Yes my findings the same as the OP. I was always told my grandpa was 50% Cherokee Indian, turns out I’m not any Native American at all. I was Irish instead so the stories that my great grandma had an affair with Wild Bill Cody and that he actually gathered my grandpa instead of the husband who was the Cherokee Indian have to be true! My great grandma was sleeping around with people for money while she was married, a real prostitute back in the day, something unspeakable and a secret she tried to keep to the grave. She gave away her secret by repeatedly visiting Wild Bill Ckdy’s Grave site and asking to be left alove and crying at the site. So it looks like Wild Bill is my Great Grandpa! I wish I could hunt down his legitimate offspring and get a DNA test with them to prove we are family

Re: Anybody take a genetic DNA test and shocked by the results?
The tests have a % margin for error....

This is what we had to do in physics experiments at college...there is always a % error ..We used to calculate it.

Also the DNA is not exactly divided up ...it is much more random...

You get half from each parent......but them it is a bigger bundle than appears in your own DNA ...

My Mum once said ,before the DNA tests...to me ..What is it like to carry those genes and not have them yourself?

It is much more random ,which is good ....God is very clever is he not?

You only get into trouble if you marry /breed to close and then the genes produce nasty illnesses ...

That is what happened to the Pharos and is happening to the Pakistanis here now....some people are slow...I feel so sorry for their off spring.

Anyway you may not know that the Normans were from Scandinavia .

I think that is how some from UK have Scandinavian genes ...rather than Vikings raping and pillaging.....

The old Lords of the Manor also had Right d signore .....spelling wrong ...which meant he had sex with all the new brides in his manor before their new husband did.

I do not know how correct/ how much of it went on , that was but it is mentioned......in writings .

Ancestry results are a guide to help look in the correct records ...if there are any.....

They helped me as I was surprised to find a reasonable chunk of Scandinavian and it made me widen my search and I did find a Norman link through the records .....

There is a sense that it doesn’t matter if they know..

Why because if they really wanted to know your DNA they easily could ...

Also it is the soul who inhabits the DNA which is important as much as the body itself.....
