Volcano Eruption in Russia on August 14 2019 03:33 PM (UTC).


The Karymsky volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East emitted ash to an altitude of 5 km Wednesday, according to the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. "A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues and ash explosions of up to 6 km could occur at any time," it said in a statement, warning that it could affect low-flying aircraft.

The institute has attributed orange color code to the activity, which under the aviation color code map signifies that a volcano is exhibiting heightened unrest with an increased likelihood of eruption or that a volcanic eruption is underway...

Hundreds of firefighters battled wildfires in Greece Tuesday, with the largest burning through a thickly forested nature reserve on the island of Evia north of Athens where three villages have been evacuated.

Firefighters joined by army soldiers, police officers and forestry workers battled a major wildfire in southeastern Armenia for the second consecutive day on Monday. According to the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations, it erupted on Sunday afternoon in a forest several dozen kilometers north of Meghri, a small town located near the country's border with Iran.

A ministry statement said the fire destroyed around 12 hectares of mostly wooded land belonging to the Arevik nature reserve by the time it was contained on Sunday morning. It said the firefighting efforts there continued in the following hours, involving about 70 firefighters as well as 30 soldiers, 45 police officers and dozens of civilian workers....

Seven people including children have perished after heavy torrential rain in Sudan's Al-Jazera State, leaving thousands more homeless in ten villages, state media reported on Wednesday. Reports suggest an eight-year-old and a 12-year old drowning in the village of Alrofaa, n the north of the country and houses being washed away by the rains which lasted between Monday and Tuesday.

What weather site do you Europeans use for weather forecasts? In the US, I tend to use accuweather.com or weather.com, but I find their forecasts for Europeare the same every day and not generally accurate. We are heading to Salzburg and GAP starting Semptember and am trying to figure out temperature range and rain forecasts and we get closer.

Power was restored early Friday after a massive overnight outage turned out the lights to approximately 54,000 residents across Marin County, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The outage hit around 10 p.m. with reports of outages in Sausalito, Mill Valley, Belvedere, Tiburon, Corte Madera, San Rafael, Novato and across to West Marin. Power was restored around 1:29 a.m. Friday. "Crews have restored power to North Bay (#MarinCounty) customers," PG and E spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said on Twitter. "We appreciate your patience."

The Marin County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center, which also takes calls for most Marin fire departments and police departments in Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Belvedere, was overwhelmed with 911 and non-emergency calls Wednesday evening. The sheriff's office broadcast through Twitter that residents shouldn't call 911 unless there was an emergency. Between 11 p.m. and midnight, the center received 68 911 calls....

Tropical storm Krosa is now tracking northeast, bringing torrential rains to northern Japan, through Saturday. Disaster officials are urging people to stay alert for landslides and flash flooding. A commuter ferry ran aground in fog in Boston Harbor on Friday, injuring four people on board. Air travelers across the country were struck with delays Friday due to a computer issue that prevented customs officials from processing new arrivals. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it is taking "immediate action" to rectify the issue and is working to process travelers as quickly as possible.
