Flood in Congo on November 22 2019 03:39 PM (UTC).


The Republic of Congo's government has declared a state of natural disaster in three territories after severe flooding displaced at least 50,000 people.The Council of Ministers said weeks of heavy rains in Likouala, La Cuvette and Plateaux territories have destroyed homes and infrastructure.

The government says severe flooding has caused the loss of plantations, livestock and food reserves and led to a resurgence of waterborne diseases...

Based on slightly drier model trends, precipitation amounts of 2.25-3.5 inches look good in the wettest coastal/valley areas.
Precipitation in the mountains below the snow line 3.75-5.5". 12" of snow at 4,500'. 2 feet at 5,500'. 3 feet at 7,000'.

Landslide in Kenya on November 23 2019 11:50 AM (UTC).


Authorities say heavy rains in western Kenya created overnight floods that have killed 17 people, including 12 people feared buried in a mudslide.In West Pokot county, local administrator Joel Bulal said Saturday that 12 people died in a mudslide in the village of Nyarkulian and four people are missing in the village of Parua.West Pokot County

Commissioner Apollo Okello said five other people died when their car was swept away on the road between Kitale and Lodwar after two rivers overflowed their banks.More than 1 million people in East Africa have been affected by flooding after higher-than-normal rainfall....

We've been having some nice weather the last few days, but quite windy today. Seems like we get snow every week, but ground is not froze yet! One of the wettest falls I can remember!

For our Central California Interior followers here is the NAM12 Model projection of the timing of incoming precipitation on Tuesday through early Wednesday. The model only extends through 4 AM Wednesday but it is a good snap shot of arrival time.

It will be very interesting to see how the first week of December turns out with both ensemble & operational model confidence increasing for some form of an #AtmosphericRiver to take aim at the west coast... That’s all we can conclude for now, but keep an eye on it.

Flash Flood in France on November 24 2019 06:01 AM (UTC).


Two people were missing and hundreds of homes flooded Saturday as heavy rains hit the Cote d'Azur in southern France, disrupting air and rail transport and leading to hundreds of evacuations.One of the missing was a 77-year-old man.Near Muy, in the Car area, a woman was also missing after a lifeboat capsized with three crew members and three other people aboard.

While five of them reached safety she could not be found.Two other people were rushed to hospital as storms hit the area overnight.The two districts affected, Alpes-Maritimes and Var, were placed on "red alert" warnings by the meteorological office and official warnings were also issued about high waves off the coast

.A total of 1,600 members of the emergency services were mobilised to deal with the emergency.Numerous roads were cut off and rail traffic was halted from the Cote d'Azur to the Italian border until at least Sunday.Flights from Nice international airport were suspended during the day and due to resume late Saturday.In Nice itself, alert sirens sounded to urge people to stay indoors.

Most residents complied and the streets were almost deserted by late afternoon on Saturday.Four thousand homes were left without electricity due to the bad weather and flooding.In several towns...

Landslide in Italy on November 24 2019 05:23 PM (UTC).


A stretch of roadway collapsed in Italy's Savona province on November 24, the Italian fire service said. Footage shared by Vigili del Fuoco, the Italian fire service, shows the collapsed viaduct, which local media reported was caused by a landslide from the town of Madonna del Monte. Firefighters said they were investigating if any cars were involved in the incident.

The collapse occurred as heavy rain hit the region over the weekend. A red alert was in place for Genoa and parts of the Liguria region as rivers broke their banks due to the rainfall. Public buildings were closed and outdoor events cancelled for the day. Rail services were suspended. ...

Heavy mountain #snow will be likely Tuesday night - Wednesday. 2 to 3 FEET of snow are possible above 3000-3500 feet.

Travel will be very difficult. Adjust your #holiday travel plans accordingly!

Winter Storm Timing: Midday Tues-Wed, finish your travels by Tues AM to avoid long delays and travel headaches.
Snow levels could be as low as 2000', leading to large portions of roadways being snow covered.

HWY 58 goes through the area where I am and the CHP will close it in a heart beat. CalTrans has gates at all of the entrances and the CHP stops the traffic on both sides of the mountain every time that it snows and freezes. Also with a foot or more of snow they don't even have enough equipment to keep the roads clear if this storm does what the prediction says. And that is the state highways. The local roads will be even worse because this area is very rural.

Forest / Wild Fire in USA on November 25 2019 04:24 AM (UTC).


Authorities are continuing to monitor a fire at North Carolina's famed Cold Mountain.U.S. Forest Service officials said Sunday that a wildfire continues to burn at the iconic mountain despite rain in the area over the weekend.

The mountain has been featured in a popular novel and an award-winning movie. Charles Frazier's bestselling book "Cold Mountain" is about a Confederate soldier's journey through western North Carolina. The book was later adapted into a 2003 movie starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger.

The forest service didn't release details on what might have caused the fire or where exactly it began. The Shining Rock Wilderness area is temporarily closed because of the fire.The mountain is about 35 miles (55 kilometres) from the city of Asheville. ...

Unusually heavy rains yesterday triggered landslides in northwestern Kenya. 56 people were killed, Reuters reported, citing local government officials.Heavy rainfall began on Friday in the West Pokot district, which borders Uganda.
