We have had little to no snow at all...no moisture, dry as a bone and warm weather ike I cant recall.

And from someone who used to "know" when it was going to rain. Now it just feels like it will but doesn't. They have modified it so much it is unpredictable. Great thread idea.

The magnetic field is weakening causing the jet stream to run amok which wreaks havoc with the weather. Should be interesting documenting the effects here. Great idea Mon! I'd love it if we could get into solar minimum, increased cosmic rays leading to cloud seeding which changes weather drastically, also plasma physics!!!

I have a buddy in Boulder. I think i recall him saying something about the ski resorts having less business with the lack of moisture and precipitation.

When i was younger i used to work at at golf course and would always have the radar map on the computer in the pro shop. I used to be decent enough at predicting when storms would arrive and how long they'd linger. Storms seem a lot more erratic - you can't even trust the radar as much anymore.

These are great! Thanks for labeling them too, i was to lazy to label mine last night! haha Gonna add em' to page one.

I watched an awesome documentary once about the relationship with cosmic rays and cloud creation. It was a study taking place in the late 80's ( maybe 90's) i think.

Weather weirdness: From snow in the Sahara to melting roads in Australia's 117-degree heat

"In south Australia, bats were falling from their perches in trees over the weekend as sweltering temperatures literally boiled the brains of the heat-struck creatures, leading them to become incoherent and die. Australia's record temperatures have also led to melting roads."

How long has it been since you've seen stars in the sky?

Looks like a 40 degree drop in temps over a 16 hour period today. Rain to ice to snow by this evening. Nice. We can have 5 seasons here in twenty-four hours.

Temperatures will be close to the record high in Chicago today. Then plunging temps in just hours.

Seems a lot of states are experiencing this huge temperature drop today. All the way down in Texas even.

Crazy weather can be dangerous, as we all know. A number of years ago, we were in northwestern Kansas quail hunting, in December. Temps rose to almost 70 degrees during the day, we were in shirtsleeves at noon. By 2pm, temp was 30, by 10pm, temp was below zero, by sunrise next day temp was -13. 83 degree drop in temps over 18 hours.

Same! No stars till' Saturday here in NoVa with the cloud cover.

Same in ne tn. Last week insane cold. Last night I had to turn off the space heater even on low it was too warm. Saturday temps plummet again for next 5 days.
Looking like a pattern.

49 Degree increase in 2 minutes in Spearfish, S.D.

Record low and high in one day in OK

110 degree rise in Oklahoma after the all time coldest temp in the state the previous day.

57 degrees here right now, but tomorrow its going to be 28 then drop to the teens over the next couple of days. WTF?

We got a winter storm warning for 1 to 3 inches of snow. I grew up in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where we had lake effect snow throughout all of winter. 1 to 3 inches of snow would not even be mentioned let alone NWS issuing a storm warning.

I also heard the wild predictions of possibly very heavy snow but the variations are ridiculous.

I'm with ya, its mostly bullshit and wild guesswork.

I guess you just pack your entire wardrobe in the back of the car and change clothes and coats accordingly.

Alligators stick snouts through ice to survive freezing conditions, swamp park says

"The Shallotte River Swamp Park says American alligators can live in water temperatures as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Officials with the park say when the water or air temperature is too low for them to be active, they go into a state of brumation, similar to hibernation. Their metabolism slows down in the cold conditions and they go into a lethargic state."
