That is crazy! Came across this article regarding temperature swings.

[link to weather.com (secure)]

49 Degree increase in 2 minutes in Spearfish, S.D.

Record low and high in one day in OK

110 degree rise in Oklahoma after the all time coldest temp in the state the previous day.

Re: The Weather Thread
Southeastern Indiana was near 60 today. We're expecting a snow storm Friday night through Saturday.

However, the weathermen can't decide on what model they want to use to forecast any kind of snowfall totals.

One model says to expect 2.0 inches.

Another model is forecasting 23.1 inches for the same fucking area!

OMG.

Just give me the Farmers Almanac and call it a day..sheesh.

IDIOTS.

About 100 miles north of you ... you forgot to mention the one week temperature swing. When I woke up a week ago it was about 13 below zero, colder in the rural areas, with a high one day of about 3 above.

This AM when I woke up it was 55 degrees!

Wake up temperature swing in one week of 68 degrees!! Crazy!! (but at least all of our snow and ice will be gone before the storm hits over the weekend - but never seen a forecast before saying that it will be somewhere between 2 inches and 2 feet!! - maybe they will change it to 2 yards? lol)

Not sure if i've ever seen such drastic, differing snow total forecasts. Should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Global warming has me freezing my ass off in Wyoming today. It's 20F now, looking for a high around 30F. Today the wind will blow making the wind chill just below zero. Meanwhile, all the animals still want fed. It'll be a good day to dress warm. No change expected in the near future. At least it's not below zero, like it was a couple of weeks ago. Over all, it's been a colder than usual winter, and looks like that will continue.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I have lived in the Boston area, the Milwaukee area, and the DC area...

The weather has never been crazier for the south. Feeling the polar vortex for the past couple of weeks down here makes me feel like I'm in Wisconsin.

Love snow...hopefully, we will have a nice big storm on the coast in this area.

Temps have been fairly steady here since during the night. Just observed a 6 degree drop in 10 minutes, so I guess we're catching the leading edge of the cold front that's going to bring the ice. It was a nice little break from the cold though.

Forecasts keep changing regarding winter storm Hunter. Looks like a big swath of the northeast is going to get a decent amount of ice.

Since last night they've already increased the rain amount in my location through friday

Southern Ohio....60 degrees today.

Snow storm with temps forecasted in the 20s for Friday

Go figure
 Quoting: OU8122

Same here. FL

High predicted for 80 today, then back down into the 40-60's for highs all next week.

VERY UNUSUAL for early January in FL. We typically don't get very very cold weather until Feb, and even then, only a day or two....NOT a full week at a time, over and over. And that's what we've already had this year.

The magnetic field is weakening causing the jet stream to run amok which wreaks havoc with the weather. Should be interesting documenting the effects here. Great idea Mon! I'd love it if we could get into solar minimum, increased cosmic rays leading to cloud seeding which changes weather drastically, also plasma physics!!!

Re: The Weather Thread
Temperatures will be close to the record high in Chicago today. Then plunging temps in just hours.

[link to www.nbcchicago.com (secure)]

"The record high for Chicago on Jan. 11 is 61 degrees, and while some parts could reach 57 or 58 degrees, the temperatures will come close but not break a record.

With the warmer temperatures also comes a chance for rain across the area throughout the day on Thursday.

Temperatures will then tank quickly into the 20s and even the teens by late evening, a fall of more than 30 degrees in just a few hours. A rain/snow mix could be possible late Thursday for the far south suburbs and northwest Indiana."

Seems a lot of states are experiencing this huge temperature drop today. All the way down in Texas even.

[link to dfw.cbslocal.com]

"Winter weather is returning to North Texas on Thursday, and that could present problems for people who are not prepared. The morning is actually starting with mild temperatures and only a slight breeze. It does not feel like a day that might end with snow."

Here in NE Ohio we have a storm system moving in tomorrow. They're talking snow, sleet, ice etc. With a high today of 59 its all melting. I'm going to the grocery store today and stocking up on everything. This has the potential to get real ugly. I won't be going anywhere.....

Pardon my ignorance...how do you keep the animals warm during the single digits and below? I think about the animals every time I see the polar vortex creeping down from Canada...Just curious.

Re: The Weather Thread
My husband has PD.. we're in a snow belt.. very long driveway (500 + ft)

Having to pay for someone to plow when it snows every day or every other day can get expensive so he bought me a snowblower a couple of years ago (which I absolutely love btw.. Troy-Bilt Storm Tracker with tracks instead of tires) so I like to check to see how much snow is in the forecast.

I've noticed as of late.. the sites I use are not using inches anymore. Most notably Weather Underground. Now there are simply dashes --- and mostly % instead.

Why? Are they so inaccurate that is less incriminating to not put actual inches?

Thank you for providing a thread I can vent about this on. hf

Just checked W U and they have revamped their whole look.

I miss the simple "inches" forecast verysad
