NE Iowa was around 40° 5am now at 2pm it 10° supposed to drop to 1° tonight. This is pretty common here. For a real crazy weather swing read about Armistice Day 1940

United Launch Alliance is set to kick off its 2018 launch campaign with a Delta 4 rocket flight Thursday from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Gusty winds prevented rollback of the launch pad’s mobile gantry in preparation for fueling Wednesday, forcing a 24-hour delay. Liftoff of the the Delta 4 from Space Launch Complex-6 is scheduled for a window opening at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EST; 2100 GMT) Thursday with a top secret spy satellite for the National Reconnaissance Office.

Well, they've just changed our 'weather alert' AGAIN.

Now, instead of 2-4 inches of snow, they're calling for ICE, followed by 1-3 inches of snow, and then followed again by more ICE.

They have absolutely NO idea what they're doing.

Last week Saturday night into Sunday morning (just 4 days ago) the windchill is parts of NYC reached -27, so cold that I drew from a cigarette once and on the second draw the filter was hard with ice...

Right now it is 46, it will be 60 tomorrow then it'll go down to the teens on Sunday and lead into another "Arctic Blast" and snow at the start if next week. Weather's gone haywire.

The area I live in was inundated early in 2017 by what they term a 'hundred year flood', and since then, rain events have been scarce. Last winter, they tell me it was really warm, and no hard frost had occurred, making 2017 a horrible year for the biting insects. So far, there's been no snow or ice of any significance here..which isn't really a bad thing, but for the sake of the lake and spring tourism, I hope we get some decent rain during the next few months.

not sure about the ark thing but I do think there is something in antartica. something is emitting massive microwave bursts, look on mimic satellite website...
If you say had a few 'trillion' dollars (missing usa black budget..) could you not make a massive microwave transmitter and put it where no normal person can go?
Then just blame climate change...

That would be a great weapon indeed if say you wanted chaos and order...

Good luck folks

Where I am in upstate NY is about to get hammered by snow and ice.

Friday is supposed to get up to 55, then rapidly drop to 13. Then freezing rain. Then 2 ft of snow, not including lake effect. They're predicting possible 3ft totals in most areas but more if you live near or on the lake.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76004485

Forecast in NoVa is now saying 65 tomorrow, then down to 5 degrees Saturday night, with 2.5 inches of rain expected from now until then.

It was 8 degrees warmer then they forecasted today. They were saying high of 54, turned out to be 62!

They never used to be off by so many degrees in a single days forecast.

No. But they've changed it yet again. Now, it's going to be hours of rain, followed by 1/10 inch of ice, followed by 3-4 inches of snow, beginning early tomorrow morning....another 8 hours earlier than expected.

That Recent Brutally Cold Weather? It’s Getting Rarer

"Climate change has made severe cold spells like the one that recently gripped the Northeast far less common than they used to be, a team of researchers has found.

The reason is straightforward: The Arctic has warmed so much — twice as fast in recent decades than other parts of the world — that when polar air descends to lower latitudes, the cold snaps are warmer on average. So a spell of extremely cold weather like the recent one is rare, about 15 times rarer than a century ago, the scientists said."

I trust these scientists as much as i trust Jazzy's meteorology forecasters.

Was looking for info about the drought and I found this from last September. Never heard of a 'flash drought' before...but they weren't kidding. The drought continues, especially up here in northern Arkansas.

Meteorologists: Arkansas Faces Potential of Flash Drought
9/27/17

A flash drought is when warm and dry conditions and evaporating soil moisture happen quickly.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, released Tuesday, shows 60 percent of the state as abnormally dry, up from 47 percent a week earlier and from 5 percent the week before that. The western two-thirds of the state is in the abnormally dry are.

An article just came out 20 minutes ago talking about water quality in my region being impacted due to the severe drought, but the source is on GLP's no-no list of websites. Basically, they're saying the water tastes and smells like shit, but not to fear, because “bacteriologically the water is safe.” Water levels on the lakes are down in some areas 14 to 15 feet, and treatment plants are having a difficult time with it. Groovy.

Not caught up since last night, but wanted to report that it was 57 when I went to work this morning. High around 1 or 2pm was 62. When I left for work at 4:30 it was 46, and by the time I got home 20 minutes later it had dropped to 35. I just popped out right now and it's bitter cold again. They just said on the news roads are freezing up now. I have a feeling in about an hour and going forward, I'm gonna hear a lot of sirens.
