Was looking for info about the drought and I found this from last September. Never heard of a 'flash drought' before...but they weren't kidding. The drought continues, especially up here in northern Arkansas. Meteorologists: Arkansas Faces Potential of Flash Drought9/27/17 A flash drought is when warm and dry conditions and evaporating soil moisture happen quickly.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, released Tuesday, shows 60 percent of the state as abnormally dry, up from 47 percent a week earlier and from 5 percent the week before that. [ link to www.usnews.com (secure)] --- An article just came out 20 minutes ago talking about water quality in my region being impacted due to the severe drought, but the source is on GLP's no-no list of websites. Basically, they're saying the water tastes and smells like shit, but not to fear, because “bacteriologically the water is safe.” Water levels on the lakes are down in some areas 14 to 15 feet, and treatment plants are having a difficult time with it.
