A local state of emergency remains in effect in Hampton Bays after Thursday's storm sparked major flooding on Dune Road, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said. "There was major flooding on Dune Road," he said. "The primary dune washed away around 6 p.m. last night in the vicinity of the town's commercial dock. They have been rebuilding it all night."

Schneiderman issued the emergency order effective Thursday due to severe erosion and the potential of coastal flooding along the eastern end of Dune Road in Hampton Bays, he said. The section of greatest concern has been east of the Ponquogue Bridge and opposite the Shinnecock Commercial Fishing Dock, town officials said. Schneiderman spent hours on Dune Road Thursday; Suffolk County's response has been tremendous, the supervisor said.

"The county has been moving 50 truckloads of sand, relocating it from stockpiles," Schneiderman said. The area was very close to breaching, with almost no dune left on the eastern end of Dune Road, he added. The county, he said, "is holding back the tide. It's an impressive project...

Snow Storm (Blizzard) in Montana and North Dakota, USA on October 12 2019 04:52 AM (UTC).


A snow emergency, effective at midnight, has been declared in East Grand Forks. Crews have stopped their plowing efforts until 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

Due to the continued snowfall and high wind conditions, keeping the primary streets open was the priority on Friday, according to David Murphy, city administrator for East Grand Forks. Secondary, side streets and alleys have not been plowed at this time...

Tornado in Japan on October 12 2019 08:43 AM (UTC).



Strong winds from what is believed to be a tornado struck the Shimono neighborhood of this eastern Japan city on the morning of Oct. 12, killing one person and damaging several homes, the city. A lightweight truck was found overturned and heavily damaged at the scene. A man, 49, who is thought to have been the driver, was discovered in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest. He was confirmed dead at a hospital....

NHK has learned that at least 18 people have died due to the Typhoon Hagibis in Kanagawa, Tochigi, Gunma, Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Chiba and Saitama prefectures. 13 people are missing, and at least 149 are injured.

While the snow will weaken through Sunday morning, temperatures hovering above the freezing mark will raise concerns for flooding across southern Manitoba. The heavy, wet snow and powerful winds caused around 50,000 customers to be without power on Saturday afternoon and Manitoba Hydro says many outages are likely to persist into Sunday.

It got to 60 today and melted good! Been real cold at night. My thermometer broke, so not sure how cold! We have a few nice days ahead. We'll see how it goes!

Pretty mucked up season all around eh.The trees are just starting to turn here...it will be cold soon.
