Forest / Wild Fire in Chile on December 25 2019 04:05 AM (UTC).


The federal government in Chile declared an alert Tuesday over a wildfire that had damaged dozens of homes on the outskirts of the port city of Valparaiso.News video showed large tongues of flames along the hills overlooking the city. People walked through smoke carrying bags and even pets.The National Forestry Commission of the Agriculture Ministry said on Twitter that at least 100 hectares (250 acres) were burned by afternoon and people had been evacuated from the area.

Firefighters from Valparaiso and Viña del Mar were being aided by helicopters and airplanes in battling the blase.Agriculture Minister Antonio Walker said late in the day that at least 120 homes had been affected by the fire. ...

Christmas turned to chaos for many holiday observers in the central Philippines as a typhoon with strong winds and heavy rains destroyed homes, cut off power and stranded travelers, disaster officials said on Wednesday.

Typhoon Phanfone, rated category 2 by Tropical Storm Risk, was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 km per hour (75 miles per hour) with gusts up to 150 kph when it made landfall in the eastern province of Samar on Tuesday, weather and disaster officials said.More than 4,000 people have been evacuated in the Eastern Visayas region of the central Philippines, disaster officials said,...

Snow Storm (Blizzard) in Lebanon on December 27 2019 05:28 PM (UTC).

A heavy storm of rain and snow starting Wednesday hit Lebanon, causing great damage to roads and properties in Beirut and other regions in the country, the National News Agency reported Thursday.During the storm, two people were killed and another injured in a car accident in Baalbek city, about 85 km northeast of the capital Beirut, after the driver lost control of his car.

The heavy rain in various areas including Baalbek, Danniyeh, Jal El Dib, Dbayeh and Hermel affected roads, causing cars to be stranded for hours. Civil Defense teams had to intervene to save people stuck in some areas, and helped people draw water out of some hotels and houses in the capital.Meanwhile, agricultural products such as bananas and citrus were affected by the wind speed in various areas of the country.

Dubbed Loulou, the storm is expected to continue for the rest of the week...

Avalanche in Switzerland on December 27 2019 05:52 AM (UTC).


Two people have been injured and police fear others may be buried in the snow after an avalanche swept across a ski trail near the Swiss town of Andermatt.The avalanche occurred mid-morning on Thursday while many holiday skiers were enjoying the mountain sunshine the day after Christmas.A police spokesman said the avalanche was of a considerable size.
