Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
I saw an eye testimony on CNN (TV or net, i don't remember), the guy was apparently indian and he said that he was trying to contact his friend on her mobile but she wsn't picking up. He said he kept trying and that at some point the cellular network was not accessible anymore.

I am trying to get hold of this footge.

Re: Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
I too have seen two news reports on this.

US government agencys have this capability-specifically to shut down a cell tower array.

A fairly good technical explanation of how this is done is covered in detail in Tom Clancy's book Rainbow Six.

Pinned.
Handguns are a skill; shotguns an art; rifles a science.

Re: Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
No cell phones.....no calls for backup or to tell real police what is going on. No calls from students possible disturbed by multiple shooters.

Great way to compartmentalize the whole situation. Heck there could have been 5 or 10 shooters but since no one could talk to the outside world, we'll never know.

My guess is just possible there will be more cell phone videos that will be totally inconsistant with the official story....that is unless the gov't perpetrators have a way to "hack" into them.....which is likely.

Wonder if we will see stories about people saying " but that isn't what I saw or filmed with my camera".

Communication attacks are nothing new.....once the official story is broadcast enough they will move onto other things and you won't get official airtime of inconsistancies.....and it takes time for such inconsistancies to surface without rapid comunication.

hopefully smart people will use internet to compile the stories.....but oh right "we are the nutjobs"......

Re: Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
cell towers are actually pretty easily overwhelmed... they can only handle a certain number of active calls, then they start refusing more. since the VT campus is only about 2600 acres, and there are 20,000 some students, it is pretty plausible to say that the towers were simply overwhelmed because of 20000 parents calling their kids to make sure they are alright.

NOT ACCESSIBLE IS NOT 'WENT DOWN' !

You know, this usually happens when something big happens and masses of ppol r setting up connection with the base station(mobile network). These base stations have a limited capacity. Thats why every time something big happens they ask ppol 2 chill out cus the network becomes overloaded.

Re: Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
to manipulate a quote from the esteemed senator stevens:

"Here we have a situation where enormous entities want to use the [cell towers] for their purposes to [call home] and they want to deliver it vast amounts of [telephone calls] over the [airwaves]. And again, the [airwaves] is not something you just dump something on. It’s not a truck.

It’s a series of tubes.

And if you don’t understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your [phone call] in, it gets in line and its going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of [phone calls], enormous amounts of [phone calls]."

It was funny too because the person said something to the effect that the 'cell phones weren't working at all' and not that there was a busy signal or a message saying the lines were overloaded, which is what would be expected if everyone were trying to call at once.

See, even if I can't get a signal on my phone, the camera on it is always operational as long as I have enough power.

Agreed, but then you have to admit that this is bad capacity planning as the max number of simultaneous calls in that area is more or less known (campus population).

I found this quote from the transcript of last nights AC 360...

"KARINA PORUSHKEVICH, STUDENT: It was very, very saddening. I was crying. I couldn't reach my family because they turn -- like the phones were off, everything was off."

Here is the link to the page:

[link to transcripts.cnn.com]

Everyone should save this transcript to their harddrives before it gets taken down.

Were through the looking glass here people.

They did have some resourceful student riding around in a model T Ford with a megaphone yelling, "Run for the Hills!". Seriously, they resorted to a speaker system...at least it was mentioned in early reports. Probably gone now.

So ummm… is there any footage of the shooter moving around? Because you'd think a university would be fairly hooked up with cameras n'shit… maybe not, but that would be rather surprising. You'd have to expect that at least one or two camera's would've caught him, eh?

Please read the "bomb threat was dress rehersal for shooting" thread. You might have to search "dress rehersal" to find it. I started it and it has some good info especially pertaining to the PA System that was in use and the messages being repeated over it.

Re: Virginia Tech: Cellular network went down
Ok you've heard of DOS attacks....i.e denial of service ?

Guess I'm going to creep you out a bit with this one but here goes.

I went to a sprint store for a freind. The line outside was long and I had a verizon phone and didn't really want to wait in line. So I parked my car in the lot and sat there for like 15 min and called my mom.

My freind finished his business which was only paying his bill (funny how they let you do that quickly )

But anyway I leave the parking lot and go home. I get a phone call from somebody saying I was illegally parked at such and such a strip mall (the exact one I was at that had the sprint store).

The fact this guy knew my cell phone number and where I was exactly and when I was there; sort of creeped me out.
I told him I didn't know what he was talking about and hung up.

My point in all this......is that people with inside knowledge and access to cell phones and cell phone towers can know exactly where you are even if you don't make a phone call

Every few seconds (or maybe microseconds...I don't know)...your cell phone has to ping a tower to find out which area it is in...This info can be used not only to identify where the cell phone is but who it belongs to.

So if this tech shooting was an inside job (and many beleive it was) then certain circles of DOS attacks could be done as well identify potential targets for the would be assasins.

Every body who had a cell phone on their persons could be tracked like electronic ants on a big map of the campus from a command stationed....

This brings a whole new dimension to the concept of a turkey shoot. It could even be used against real cops with a few rogue cops thrown in to steer them away from the real action.

Heck using such a system, they could have killed 300 -400 students before having to withdraw for other obvious reasons

Heh, I googled …like you say, Hokie Bird. Which looks like a frickin' turkey to me.

Interesting trivia : Before games, he leads the charge onto the field as students jump up and down in the stands to Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

"exit light, enter night…….Taaaake my hand, off to never-never land."
