Hibiscus and Blood pressure
Anybody have any knowledge of this?

Was listening to a great podcast yesterday and the doctor was forward thinking and hailed a plant based diet. The subject was 10 amazing plants with incredible health benefits. According to her, hibiscus when drank in a tea 2-3 times a day, could lower systolic blood pressure.

Even cited a clinical trial where 3 people were given hibiscus tea, and 3 were given a placebo tea. All had high blood pressure, and over the course of a week, and after drinking the hibiscus tea 2-3 times a day, they benefited from a 7.2 drop in systolic pressure.

Does anyone here have any personal experience with this, I am thinking about ordering some for my father to try and was curious if anyone had a specific brand that was better than others?

Thanks!

Been taking it for a couple of months. Doc was quick to put me pills. Pills gave me a bad cough. So I went all natural. Started drinking hibiscus with cinnamon and ginger (all good for high blood pressure). So far so good. But I also take garlic and l arginine.

Garlic and cinnamon are a part of his diet now, the hibiscus was new to me however.

Have you measured your blood pressure since using it and how often are you taking it daily?

The podcast recommendation was 2-3 8oz mugs of tea daily.

I live in Hawaii and will not go without hibiscus tea.

It will immediately lower pulse and blood pressure from the first cup on. Bright burgundy so it can stain teeth in time.

Personally limit myself to one cup a day but know others who drink 2.

Re: Hibiscus and Blood pressure
You can buy it bulk and make your own loose tea. Try frontier co-op or wherever you buy your herbs. They sell both organic and regular. I use their hibiscus in my own tea blend recipes. If you are drinking a lot you will save money and get high quality by buying it loose in bulk. I highly re recommend their herbs and flowers, their german chamomile flowers are tops, too.

i store in large mason jars, but some in a smaller jar/other sealed container if i'm making it frequently. Just get one of those stainless tea brew baskets which sit on the edges of cup/mug and put the number of 1-2 teaspoons per 8 ounces of boiling water. Get him a kettle with different temps for different teas. Use boiling water temp for herbals.

I thought rooibos tea was good for lowering BP, among other benefits, and I used to drink alot of it. Lately there has been some warnings about the overuse of it. I wonder if hibiscus is safer alternative, I really liked rooibos for its flavor.

By forward thinking, you mean leftist.

And by hailing a plant based diet, vegetarian leftist, anti-meat extremist?

Good that you picked up some good information, and appreciative that you shared it, but people should be wary of communist agents pushing damaging and hateful agendas.

Age 57 bp of 170/110 at times. Used to take 30mg Lisinopril. Stopped taking it cold turkey. Began 2-3c Anthony’s Organic hibiscus tea daily. Added breathing exercises 3x per week 15 min each(see Resparate device). BP now sometimes too low. 107/63

I like to add ginger, saffron, clove, citrus zest, honey for variety. Break free!

There is no need to ask a forum but if you have some courage left in you without ego on your shoulders look to your local Arab market grocer, they will sell some hibiscus tea. Just go in there and ask the staff for it they will help you out.

Also give pomegranate and chia seeds a mix it will drop your high blood pressure and enjoy.

Meditate if you can.

Are you sure that's safe? Here's what WebMD says:

"Oleander (Nerium oleander) is a flowering shrub. It contains chemicals called toxic cardiac glycosides, which can lead to death when consumed.

The cardiac glycosides in oleander affect the heart. These chemicals can slow the heart rate down. Some of these chemicals might also kill cancer cells.

People use oleander for heart failure, cancer, epilepsy, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. There is also no good evidence to support using oleander for COVID-19. Oleander is unsafe to use."

I would not recommend drinking Oleander tea for somebody has a high blood pressure, I would recommend drinking in doses 1’s a week or month etc.

Don’t over do it, it will cause a heart attack.

Yes, beets are great for the blood too and if you don’t like the taste, there’s a powder to blend in smoothies or pills you can take with the powder.

Re: Hibiscus and Blood pressure
It's well known to lower bp, but not by a whole lot. Back when mine was only slightly high (130ish/80), I could bring it back in the high normal range (120ish) with a very strong, concentrated hibiscus tea. Dried hibiscus petals are the only ingredient. Tadin is the brand.

Moringa works even better. Ground leaves.
I did it. I did it on purpose. And I'll do it again.
