Oh, man. I was born in Hammond, grew up in Griffith. I love "The Region." There's just a peculiar strain of Prog/Left/Democrat there that spills over from corrupt Cook County Illinois. Lake County politics is always interesting. The Lake County Sheriff just got sentenced to 188 months in prison.I believe that makes way over 100 politicians, some high ranking in the county, put in jail in the last 30 years. FYI, Hammond is not what it used to be. It is just a couple of steps up from Gary. :( The values of the South Side and Gary are encroaching into nearby towns/cities that were once wonderful places to raise a family. People keep moving further and further south. Thankfully there's a lot of land. I have fond memories of going into downtown Hammond, shopping at Goldblatz and the army/navy surplus store. Still love coming back to visit. Would even like to have a home again in Griffith. Griffith has high taxes because they are part of Calumet Township, and supporting Gary. They are trying to break away legally. I hope they succeed.
